FiveCAP planning Golf for Warmth, looking for sponsors

MANISTEE — The arrival of spring is allowing area residents to turn down the thermostat and temporarily forget about heating their homes. But at FiveCAP, Inc., home-heating costs are a year-round concern.

FiveCAP is beginning to plan its annual Golf for Warmth event, which will take place on Aug. 1 at Manistee National Golf and Resort. The event will be a nine-hole scramble, followed by a live auction.

“The warmer months present the perfect opportunity to raise money for our Walk for Warmth fund, which allows us to provide heat assistance to local families,” said FiveCAP Community Support Director Holly Haywood. “Our annual golf outing has been a fun way to get together on a warm summer day and raise money for a really great cause.”

In planning the event, FiveCAP is looking for program sponsors, tee sponsors and businesses and individuals interested in donating items for the silent auction.

“We’re also hoping people will remember us when they start to make their summer golf plans,” Haywood said. “We’re fortunate to have so many generous people in our community and we’re always really glad to provide a way for people to give while having a great time.”

All the money raised during the Golf for Warmth event will be used to provide heat assistance to residents of Mason, Manistee, Lake and Newaygo counties through FiveCAP’s Walk for Warmth fund, which provides the agency with a heat assistance safety net.

“Walk for Warmth funds allow us to offer help to people who might not otherwise qualify for government assistance programs,” Haywood said. “It’s really important because there are a lot of stipulations on those programs, so people who really need help might be disqualified. This fund gives us a means for helping those people stay warm through the winter.

“After experiencing such a difficult winter, raising funds through Golf for Warmth is more important than ever. Everyone broke their budget heating their homes this year and we have seen many people who needed help making up the difference. Replenishing the fund will allow us to ensure we can assist everyone who needs help next winter, as well.”
