Enrollment open for diabetes education classes at Spectrum

REED CITY – Whether you are newly diagnosed or have had diabetes for some time, learning about the disease can help improve your health and your life.

Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital is offering state certified diabetes education classes during the month of April with Lori King, registered nurse, and Kim Lombard, registered dietician. Each session consists of three weekly classes. Content covered during the three-hour sessions includes acute and long-term complications, exercise, glucose monitoring, goal setting, meal planning, medication management and review, stress and coping and more.

Past program participants have reported feeling better and losing weight after the program, according to a press release by Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital. Others have said their diagnosis has been a wakeup call to improve their health. Because class participants are encouraged to make lifestyle changes, they often have lasting success in managing their diabetes.

The three sessions of the program will be held on April 5, 12 and 19. All classes run from 9 a.m. to noon in the conference rooms of the Spectrum Health Reed City Occupational Health Services building located at 219 East Church St., Reed City. Call (231) 832-6636 by April 3 to register.
