Crash victim struck by vehicle near Baldwin

BALDWIN — While responding to the scene of a vehicle accident on M-37 between Baldwin and Wolf Lake on Sunday morning, Lake County Sheriff Deputies saw the driver of the crashed vehicle run into oncoming traffic. The victim was then struck by an approaching vehicle.

According to Lake County Sheriff Rich Martin, Lake County Central Dispatch received a call at approximately 10:48 a.m. of a moving van going southbound near Centerline Road and M-37 crashing into a tree.

“Deputies responded to the scene. While on scene, a party that was possibly the driver of the crashed vehicle ran out into oncoming traffic, and was struck by another vehicle traveling south bound,” Martin said. “The victim was transported by ambulance to the Baldwin Municipal Airport and from there was airlifted by helicopter to the hospital. The victim is believed to be in critical condition at this time.”

The occupants of the vehicle which struck the victim received no injuries.

The Michigan Department of Transportation shut down M-37 for a period of time while crews were on scene investigating. Traffic was rerouted.
