LAKE COUNTY — Employees at the Lake County Courthouse are looking to make the holiday season brighter for seniors who are part of the Meals on Wheels program.

“For millions of Americans, Meals on Wheels is literally the difference between remaining in their own homes and needing to relocate to a nursing facility. The nutritional meal, friendly visit and safety check help them cope with three of the biggest threats of aging: hunger, isolation and loss of independence,” said Lake County Clerk Patti Pacola. “Research proves that when seniors have the right support, they gain greater quality of life, need fewer hospital stays and live longer.”

Employees are looking for the communities help so at least one Christmas gift can be given to local seniors who receive meals.

The following items are suggested donations: Blankets, picture frames, puzzles, slippers, games, books, gloves and hats.

The Lake County Treasures Office also will be collecting similar gift items for the Baldwin AFC Home and baby items for the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Baldwin.

Any and all donations can be dropped off at the County Clerk’s Office or the County Treasurer’s Office In the Courthouse.

“Thank you for helping to make someone’s Christmas a little bit brighter,” Pacola added.
