LAKE COUNTY — The three Lake County road commissioners  will be receiving an eight-percent raise, the first pay increase in more than 20 years.

Lake County Board of Commissioners approved the raise by an unanimous vote during their Nov. 27 meeting.

“Being that the road commissioners do a lot of work, get a lot of calls and take a lot of complaints, the pay increase is not unreasonable,” said Lake County Administrator Tobi Lake during the meeting.

The raise will take effect after the first of the year for road commissioners Gary Truxton, Rick Haslock and newly elected Richard Runnels.

“It has been more than 20 years since the road commissioners got a raise. They have been paid the same wages all these years,” said Lake County Road Commission Manager Steve Leonard.

“I think it was overdue. They would be making about $380 extra per person a year, bringing their salary up to $4,333.”
