Class designed to prevent diabetes before it starts

REED CITY– Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital is now offering a preventative diabetes class. This new approach to preventive health care uses registered nurses and dieticians who are certified diabetes educators to teach patients simple yet effective methods to stop diabetes before it happens.

The two-hour session costs $20 and focuses on healthy eating, weight loss and tips for getting active, which are key aspects of diabetes


Participants will learn about pre-diabetes criteria such as being over the age of 45; having a parent, brother or sister with diabetes; being African-American, Hispanic or Native American ethnicity; overweight; not enough physical activity; high blood pressure; high cholesterol or having a baby that weighed more than nine pounds at


The class will take place from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on April 5 at the Spectrum Health Occupational Health Services building conference rooms, located at 219 E. Church Street in Reed City. Call (231) 832-6636 by April 3 to register.
