Church hosts open house with free dinner

LAKE TWP. — Covenant Evergreen Church is inviting the public to check out everything its new church building has to offer during a free taco dinner the congregation is offering this weekend.

The dinner will take place at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, at the new Covenant Evergreen Church. The church leaders are inviting everyone from the community to stop by and build a three-meat taco plate with all the trimmings.

"With the new ministry center being accessible to everyone, we are in the process of starting an open arms in the community program," explained church leader Sandra Goodrich. "We are reaching out to the Lake County community. This dinner is a great introduction to this new attitude since it will be an evening for everyone to get together and meet."

The new building has seating for 280 people. The primary reason the congregation wanted a new church building, beside requiring more space for their Sunday services, was the nature of the previous building. With steep steps and no wheelchair access, the 63-year-old church was making attending services difficult for those with mobility issues.

"Now everything is on one floor and accessible to everyone, even those in wheelchairs," said Goodrich. "We hope people who may have left Covenant Evergreen Church because of the limitations of the old building will return to see the new building and maybe rediscover what we have to offer."

There will be no cost for the dinner, but the organizers are asking those wishing to attend to RSVP at (231) 898-2651.

Although the new church building was opened for services in December, it will have an official dedication ceremony on Sunday, May 1.

"We would like to get all of our outdoor facilities completed and looking good in the spring weather," remarked Goodrich. "We are opening our doors to everyone in the area so people are welcome to come down here any time."
