Christmas cantata celebrates the season
BALDWIN — A blend of voices rang out melodies of Christmas cheer on Sunday afternoon at the Baldwin Congregational Church. A a choir made up of area faith communities, under the direction of Mary Anderson, received a standing ovation for their presentation of the cantata, “Celebrate the Gift,” a Christmas musical by Camp Kirkland.
The program opened with everyone singing, “Praise Him,” followed by a presentation of a vocal and guitar arrangement of “O Sing a Song of Bethlehem,” a traditional English melody in a minor key.
The choir congregated to the front while everyone joined, “Go Tell it on the Mountain.”
The choir then performed the cantata which featured songs, “Come and Rejoice,” “Celebrate the gift of Jesus,” “The Manger Held it All,” “A Child is Born,” “Christmas isn’t Christmas” and “What a Gift.” Rosemary Dionne narrated the Christmas story between songs.
The program closed with everyone joining, “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
“We come here from different paths and places, but we are here together as one to give our offering of praise,” said Baldwin Congregational Pastor Bruce Whitney.
Following the service, everyone was invited to enjoy cookies and other goodies in the church basement.
