Child injured in accidental shooting

ELK TOWNSHIP – A five-year-old male was transported to the hospital after an accidental shooting in Elk Township this week.

Around 4:25 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25, deputies from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources responded to an incident of a child being shot with a hand gun on Oakwood Lane in Elk Township, according to a press release from the department.

Upon arrival, deputies found a 5-year-old had been shot with a .22 revolver by a 13-year-old sibling. Medical treatment was given on-scene, and the child was transported by AeroMed to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

“Several unsecured firearms were recovered from the residence,” the press release stated.
