LAKE COUNTY — With hunters heading into the woods for the opening of deer firearm season, local groups are serving up some fun and good food.

• The fifth annual Irons Community Buck Pole begins at noon on Thursday, Nov. 15, at Skinner Park, 5074 W 10 1/2 Mile Rd, Irons. People are encouraged to bring their trophy bucks. There will be three prizes in each the youth and adult category. Dinner will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Prizes will be awarded at 9 p.m. There will be a bonfire.

• Faith Fellowship Church in Irons will have a free hunter’s dinner at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 8889 W. 6 Mile Road.

• Evergreen Covenant Church is hosting their annual hunter’s dinner from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov 14, at 7396 S. Evergreen Road, Branch. Anyone, including non-hunters, are welcome. The menu includes grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, baked beans, dinner roll with butter and a selection of homemade pies. Cost is $10 and for children 10-years-old and under, $5.

The Women’s Group of Evergreen Church has sponsored the hunter’s dinner for approximately 55 years at the beginning of deer rifle season and is a Carr Settlement tradition open to anyone in the area along with family and friends.

• Lake County Sportsman Club is hosting their annual deer hunter’s dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, at VFW Post No. 5315, 2225 S. M-37, Baldwin. Tickets at the door are $12. Menu includes a 8 to 9-ounce sizzler, potato salad, pasta salad, baked beans, roll, dessert and beverage. There will be door prizes and 50/50 raffles.
