Brethren — The Brethren Boosters are pleased to announce the musical line-up for their 2013 annual Brethren Days Celebration, taking place August 30 through Sunday,

Sep. 1.

All bands and entertainment will be performing under the gazebo in the Dickson Township Park, located on Coates Hwy in the village of Brethren.  The charge for admission on both Friday and Saturday evening is $3 per person. Children 12 and under are free with an adult; however, no one under the age of 16 is allowed in after 9pm without adult

Friday evening admission starts at 7 p.m., and Saturday begins at 8 p.m. The Cook Shack will be open, as well as the Beer Tent.

“We have a new format for this year’s Brethren Days. Typically we have music on Saturday and Sunday nights, and the Dickson Township Fire Department hosts a Horse Pull on Friday. However, due to a lack of funds, the Horse Pull has been canceled.

“We hope that having some great entertainment on Friday night will help draw a great crowd to our little town, to help us ‘Celebrate Families’ — this year’s theme”, says Boosters President, Diane Ward.

From 7pm-11pm on Friday, the Brian Nolf Band will be playing everyone’s country favorites. Known as ‘Nashville’s Michael Buble’, Brian performs with “the smooth vocal style of George Strait” and “the range of emotion and energy of Keith Urban.”

Brian has worked with stars such as Dolly Parton, Andy Griffith, Connie Smith, Porter Wagoner and many more. Sure to be a hit, Brian has performed all over the country and is now back in Northern Michigan, sharing his talent and love of music with us!

Saturday’s line up starts off at noon, with the Eileen Hawkins Band. A local favorite, Eileen performs waltzes and polkas to the delight of folks young and old. Guaranteed a crowd pleaser, Eileen never disappoints her Brethren Days fans. Inducted into the Michigan State Polka Hall of Fame in 2012, Eileen has been performing at Brethren Days for over 40 years!

At 4pm, local DJ Joel Mackey will be taking requests and spinning the tunes, with an extensive collection sure to please everyone!

Rocking the stage from 8pm - 1am, is Power Play. Their fun, danceable and recognizable songs bring any dance floor to life! Hailed at “THE Classic Rock band in Northwest Michigan”, Power Play has a great local following, with many people traveling to see them wherever they play! The name of the band comes from the origin of the members themselves - when this group started in 2006 the members had children in local youth hockey. Come on out and have a great evening at Brethren Days, singing and dancing the night away to the rock vibes of Power Play!

From noon – 3pm on Sunday, The Nephews will delight visitors to the Brethren Days Chicken BBQ with dinner music. Since their first public performance at age ten, Tim & Byron Joseph have entertained at countless community events and festivals as a duo, and as part of the Dekalb String Band. Drawing on a deep reservoir of American music, the Josephs’ repertoire is rooted in old time country music, country blues and rock & roll, but includes many songs which are not easy to categorize.  They will be joined on stage by Marlene Wood, who sings and plays the bass guitar.

The final act of the weekend will be Duke & The Studebakers. Formed in the mid 1980’s, this group of

four blends classic rock and oldies with a bit of country music. Relying heavily on three and four-part harmony, these gentlemen can belt out everything from The Eagles to Elvis. Having opened for Waylon Jennings, Mitch Rider & The Detroit Wheels and Dr. Hook, Duke & The Studebakers will put a smile on any music lover’s face!

Other activities for the weekend include Softball Tournaments, a Poker Run, a Cardboard Boat Race on Lake Elinor, Kids Games & Basketball Skills Clinic, Arts & Crafts Show, a Chicken BBQ, the Grand Parade, and of course, a fantastic fireworks display on Saturday night at dusk (in case of inclement weather, fireworks will be held Sunday at dusk).  For more information on Brethren Days, visit
