Blessing of the Animals will be Sept. 17

FREE SOIL — Those wanting a blessing for their animals and pets are invited to Blessing of the Animals, Farm Olympics and Silent Auction on Sunday, Sept. 17, in Free Soil at Circle Rocking S Children’s Farm.

The event begins at 1 p.m. and pets of all sizes are welcome, said Nancy Supran, president of Circle Rocking S Children’s Farm.

“This event always has a great turnout,” she said. “It looks like Noah’s Ark out here during the event. We get a lot of Lake County people from Irons, Baldwin and the surrounding areas who attend and participate, along with people from Grand Rapids, Traverse City, Cadillac and out of state. It is a big event, and it is free.”

Circle Rocking S Children’s Farm is a nonprofit group providing animal touch therapy and recreation free of charge for children with disabilities. More than 3,000 visitors travel to the farm each year, according to Supran.

All proceeds raised through a silent auction and Chinese auction will benefit the farm.

“People do not need a pet to attend. They can bring a stuffed animal,” Supran said. “There are free stuffed animals to all who want one. For all the pets that have passed away, bring a live or silk flower with a picture of your pet. A special blessing will be given and presented in the St. Francis Garden.”

All pets must be on a short leash or in a carrier. Owners are completely responsible for their pets.

The event will have live accordion music by Helen Herzberg and refreshments will be available.

Visitors also can tour the Fountain Fire Department truck and visit with the Mason County Sheriff Department’s mounted horse division.

Farm Olympic games will take place rain or shine inside the barn and tents. There is a $5 entree fee per class.

Proceeds benefit the children’s farm programs. All ages are welcome to participate.

Some of the games include animal costume contests, a bale toss, egg toss, a pie eating contest and many more.

The silent auction will be from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Participants must be present to win.

Those who cannot attend the event but would still like to make a donation, they can do so by credit card on the website or mailing a check to 5487 Tuttle Road, Free Soil, MI 49411.
