Bitely Homecoming begins this weekend
BITELY — With this year's theme as "Family Fun for Everyone," the 62nd Annual Bitely Homecoming begins on Friday.
The fun begins at 8 a.m. on Friday with a fishing contest. A horse pull is scheduled for 6 p.m. followed by the Little Queen and King contest at 7 p.m. Harry Johnson will give the Bitely Senior introduction at 7:30 p.m. and the Junior Miss Bitely introduction will be at 7:45 p.m.
The fun continues with a pie eating contest at 8 p.m; a teen dance at 9 p.m.; and fireworks at dark.
Saturday begins with a 5K race at 8:30 a.m. A car show follows at 9 a.m. at the ball diamond as well as a horseshoe pitching contest.
At 10 a.m., there will be a three-on-three basketball tournament. Adult games such as potato peeling, pit spitting and nail driving will be at 1 p.m. as well as the car show judging.
At 2 p.m., there will be a mini horse pull followed by a tractor pull at 2:15 p.m. A water battle begins at 3 p.m. followed by kids games at 4 p.m.
At 5 p.m., people will have an opportunity to challenge each other with arm wrestling.
Pig chasing fun begins at 5:30 p.m. with a junior pig race for ages 5 and under; an intermediate pig chase for ages 6 through 9 at 5:45 p.m.; and a preteen pig chase for ages 10 through 12 at 6 p.m.
The Junior Miss Bitely pageant is scheduled for 6 p.m. and Citizen of the Year will be announced at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday wraps up with a watermelon eating contest at 8:15 p.m. and a patio dance at 9 p.m.
On Sunday, the festivities continue with a craft show at 8 a.m. A frog jump contest for all ages will be at 10 a.m.
At 11 a.m., there will be horseshoe tournaments and canoe races at Mawby Lake. Bed races will take place at noon downtown.
The Bitely Homecoming Parade will proceed through town at 1 p.m.
There will be a baby crawl at 2:15 p.m. followed by a cake and pie judging contest at 2:25 p.m. A foam watermelon contest for all ages is set for 3 p.m.
The day concludes with live music at 4 p.m. and Bitely Homecoming raffle drawings will be announced at 6 p.m.
A flea market and food booths are offered all three days.
