BALDWIN — Baldwin's football team returns to West Michigan D League action with road games Friday at Manistee Catholic Central and on Sept. 29 at Marion.

The Panthers have suffered losses for three straight weeks, and are 1-3.

But coach Bob Watkins is confident his team will stay upbeat, despite having sustained many injuries in recent weeks.

“We had a real good talk (on Monday),” Watkins said. “When you start losing people to injuries, the ones you have, you have to make sure we have them here. We've committed the first part of practice, offense or defense, to work on tackling skills and try to increase their individual development. We tell them to keep their heads up and keep trying.”

Manistee Catholic Central is 2-2.

“Everybody is in the same boat we are now,” Watkins said, “with the exception of last week's game. Onekama is undefeated right now and is the powerhouse team.”

Onekama hosts Baldwin the last week of the regular season.

Standout running back Blake Dockery is still out with a knee injury.

Watkins also announced Baldwin has decided to cancel the JV season. Baldwin has around 12 on its varsity roster, Watkins said.
