BALDWIN – Baldwin’s annual summer concert will present its final performance for the season Saturday.

The 22nd Sounds from the Forest, Echo through the Timber series will come to an end with a performance by The General Assembly starting at 7 p.m. at Wegner Pavilion in downtown Baldwin.

Formed in 1971 by a group of Mason County musicians, The General Assembly has since performed throughout Michigan, offering the sounds of the big bands such as Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Glenn Miller, the Dorseys and others.

As the years have passed, the 17-piece orchestra features a female vocalist and has grown to include musicians from Reed City, Spring Lake, Grand Rapids and Muskegon, as well as Mason County residents. Many members have performed with nationally known stars such as The Temptations, Bobby Vinton, Max Roach, Peter Nero and Henry Mancini.
