BALDWIN — After six years of offering an assortment of antiques to customers, Nancy’s Antiques in Baldwin plans to close its doors next month.

Nancy Vandenberge said she will close her antique shop, located behind Pompeii’s Pizza at 741 Michigan Ave., sometime during October; although an exact date has not been set. She hopes to sell as much of her remaining inventory as possible before closing for good.

After more than half a decade in business, Vandenberge is getting older and it is time to close the shop, she said.

“It is a lot of work,” Vandenberge said. “There isn’t anything you don’t have to lift, sand, wash or polish.”

Nancy’s Antiques first opened after Vandenberge’s son purchased the building and asked his mother if she would like to open a store because she and her husband had acquired many items over the years. Most of those items are now merchandise and line the walls and floor of the shop.

“A few pieces are consignment, but most of it is collecting for 50 years. My husband started at 8,” Vandenberge said.

The shop’s items vary from furniture and clothes to dishware, toys and more. It even includes unique items like an Edison phonograph and lighted street signs.

After the shop closes, Vandenberge plans to sell her remaining inventory online.

Nancy’s Antiques normal business hours are 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. However, interested customers can contact Vandenberge at her home, at (231) 745-3157, or at the shop, at (231) 745-4940, to inquire about additional business hours or when the shop will close.
