BALDWIN — Baldwin goes to the Upper Peninsula this weekend for a clash on Saturday against the defending 8-player state champion Powers North Central. The game is at Pickford.

Both teams enter the game at 1-2.

North Central lost 66-58 in overtime to Crystal Falls Forest Park and 32-30 to Ontonagon.

“Their good quarterback is gone, but he had a supporting cast last year and a lot of them are back,” Watkins said. “At one point, they were ranked third in the state. They’re two powerhouses.”

Watkins said both teams have 3 ½-hour bus rides.

The junior varsity team will not play this week, Watkins said. The JV squad lost 26-0 on Saturday to Suttons Bay.

“I told them even though the score didn’t indicate it, I was impressed with their fortitude,” Watkins said. “We battled them really tough. They did all their scoring in the first half.”
