Baldwin football dealing with numbers
BALDWIN — Baldwin football coach Bob Watkins is now looking at a severe shortage of upperclassmen as he gets his Panthers ready for Friday’s homecoming game against Manistee Catholic Central.
Watkins said on Tuesday his roster currently does not contain any seniors, due mainly to either injuries or players leaving the team. He only has two juniors with Isiah Defreece and Darrion Hayter. The others are freshmen and sophomores.
Catholic Central “is (3-1) in the conference,” Watkins said. “They run a lot of inside stuff with a trap and then they’ll surprise you. It’s almost like a wing T, except they don’t run it out of a wing T. Their quarterback is good. Their fullback is good too. They have good speed.”
Catholic Central has lost to Brethren 30-0. But MCC defeated Hale 50-22, Bear Lake 38-0 and Mesick 52-34. Baldwin lost to Mesick 66-0.
Last season MCC beat Baldwin 68-28.
Coming up, Baldwin is home with Marion on Sept. 28. at Crossroads on Oct. 5, in Big Rapids, at Brethren on Oct. 12 and home against Onekama on Oct. 19.
