BALDWIN — It’s April, and Lake County anglers are getting very excited.

“People have been catching steelhead but not in great numbers,” Doug Loomis, of Ed’s Sporting Goods, in Baldwin, said. “The water has been high and dirty but since Sunday, fishermen have been waiting. Fishermen aren’t reporting all that much but they’re still coming in.”

Dylan Willetts at Pere Marquette River Lodge said fishing continues to improve every day.

“The water is getting a little warmer and a little clearer,” he said.

“As far as water, it’s looking really good. I was out Wednesday fishing and I saw maybe a dozen fish. As water warms up. There will be a full run. It will be an early steelhead run this year, I’m guessing.”

A spokesman at Baldwin Bait and Tackle agrees.

“It’s pretty good, there’s quite a few fish in the system,” he said. “It’s been pretty busy lately, especially weekends.”
