BALDWIN — Baldwin Elementary music teacher Julie Sherlock is beaming with pride. On Friday evening, the voices of the Baldwin Elementary Choir and the rhythms from the drumming ensemble echoed through the Ludington Area Center for the Arts Christmas program, “Home for the Holidays.”

“I can honestly say I have never been more proud to be a music teacher at Baldwin Community Schools than I was Friday evening,” she said. “I was very proud of the students. For some, just traveling to Ludington was excitement enough. They were nervous as they walked out to bright lights and a full house of concert attendees, but they performed beautifully to multiple standing ovations.

“These children raised their own bar of excellence and achieved the standard they set for themselves. They left the concert feeling empowered and successful.”

On Monday morning, Sherlock’s class reviewed the video of the concert.

“I simply asked them to tell me what they noticed about their performance. They were more critical of their singing than I would have ever considered being,” Sherlock said. “They were very quick to point out what aspects of their vocal technique needed to be rectified before our concert this Friday.”

There is still time to hear the young, traveling musicians. The choir and drumming ensemble will perform at the Baldwin Elementary holiday program at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, at the elementary gym.
