Baldwin basketball girls ready to start season
BALDWIN — Two key players for Baldwin’s girls basketball team this season are expected to be Ariana Saunders and Cierra Pieske.
“It’s different but it’s going,” Saunders, a senior, said. “So far, it’s been about conditioning. Coach (Toni Wheetley) wants us to work as hard as we can. So far we’ve had drills on passing and dribbling and things like that.”
Pieske, a freshman, is looking to get more girls out for the team. She usually plays point guard. She said her favorite shot has been a 3-pointer.
“The focus has been keeping your eyes up while you’re dribbling,” she said. “It’s been awhile.”
Jenna Johnson and Mariah Sowle are expected to be among Baldwin’s top returning players.
The schedule is set to open at home on Dec. 3 against Charleton Heston in a non-league clash. The West Michigan D League season will start on Dec. 6 at Pentwater. The Panthers have five games prior to the Christmas break.
The 20-game schedule includes 18 contests in the 10-team West Michigan D League. The Panthers will be playing home-and-home league games with Bear Lake, Brethren, Crossroads Charter Academy, Marion, Mesick, Mason County Eastern, Manistee Catholic Central, Pentwater and Walkerville.
