Baldwin baseball team loses two
BALDWIN — Baldwin’s baseball team made its 2018 debut on Monday but suffered 8-2 and 9-7 loss to West Michigan D League foe Mason County Eastern.
Ryan Kolenbrander pitched the first four innings of the first game. Derrick Hossler and Ian Lemieux both pitched an inning.
Dexter Hossler pitched the second game and went more than an inning. Lemieux came in and pitched some solid innings for the Panthers.
“Ian was very good in keeping a low strike,” Baldwin coach Rob Atwood said. “He struck out the side in the third inning. That’s very good for a freshman. He’s a brand new varsity ball player for us.”
The first game went six innings and the second went four.
“We got a lot of walks today,” Atwood said. “Our main offense was walks. We have to keep working on hitting. We had a ton of walks.”
Baldwin had 13 walks for the day. DeMarko Williams had a triple and single in the first game. Logan Theissen had two hits for the day. Kolenbrander had a single.
“It was our first games of the season and only the third time I’ve been outside,”Atwood said. “We have no seniors. We have a real young squad. This is something we’re trying to build on.”
Baldwin plays at Crossroads on Thursday.
