Annual Blessing of the Sleds to take place
IRONS — The 12th annual Blessing of the Sleds, hosted by the Irons Area Tourist Association, will begin at 9 a.m. Jan. 18, at Skinner Park in Irons.
"We try every year to do this event close to new year to bless the snowmobile riders for a safe riding season," Irons Area Tourist Association trail coordinator Loretta Wierenga said. "This year we are doing it on the 18th, due to a lack of snow."
The event will begin with a breakfast of pancakes and sausage, biscuits and gravy, coffee, hot chocolate and juice, at 9 a.m., followed by the blessing at 11 a.m.
"Breakfast will be served in the banquet hall that is heated and has bathrooms," Wierenga said. "The blessing will be held outdoors, where there will be a huge bonfire."
Hundreds of sleds from all over the area ride in for this event each year, and we hope for a good turnout again this year, Wierenga said.
The event is free and open to the public.
