A time for celebration in Sauble Township

SAUBLE TWP. – The celebration fever is high in Sauble Township of Lake County as the Fourth of July approaches, and will be packed into three special days beginning Thursday, right on through the launching of fireworks on Saturday.

Ground will be broken at 1 p.m. on Thursday for a brand new playground across from Sauble Township Hall and positioned right next to the parking lot of Faith Fellowship Church.

Representatives from three grant providers that helped make the playground a reality will be on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony, including those from Lake County Community Foundation, Great Lakes People Fund and the Baldwin Rotary Club.

Then on Friday workers will move in to construct the playground. The location on the edge of Faith Fellowship’s parking lot is a special safety feature worked out between Faith and Sauble Township representatives.

Access to the playground will be off the main road, with visitors able to park in the church parking lot instead.

This spirit of cooperation has been a long-going atmosphere between the township and the church pastored by Pastor Duane Costello, formerly of Hersey.

Another spirit of cooperation has been long-standing and on-going between the township officials and Beth Ruby, who not only donated property for the park area in the same vicinity as the playground, but the property for the playground as well.

In fact, the playground will be named in her honor, “Beth Ruby Playground.”

That spirit will again move right into Saturday, which will be the actual “Fourth of July celebration,” allowing more people to attend who would have to head home too early Monday on the “real” Fourth, officials explained.

Again, Beth Ruby plays an important role as she has year after year, providing a safe location from which to launch fireworks after dark on Saturday.

Before that, however, everyone is invited to come and join in on the fun planned by the township and church working together with all sorts of activities going on from 6-8 p.m.

Ranked high on the list is the availability of food including hot dogs, popcorn, cupcakes, cotton candy and a whole assortment of extras.

Free. All of the above. Need more be said?
