LUTHER — The crisp weather that accompanies late autumn is a perfect time for a chili cook-off.  A tailgate chili-cook off will take place in downtown Luther to offer residents and visitors food, prizes and fun. Cooking begins at 10 a.m. and tasting will commence at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12.

The event is a Luther Days Association fundraiser, and there is a small fee to participate which must be paid when a participant registers. All proceeds go to support the Luther Days Association. Contestants check in at the Ellsworth Township Hall.

Participants will need all the fixings to make at least three to five gallons of chili, extra utensils, rubber gloves to prepare the food, and the food must be prepared in a clean area. Vegetables must be chopped on site. No crock-pots allowed.

This year’s theme, “Pure Luther,” will tap into people’s favorite things or memories about Luther. Participants have an option to decorate their space for a chance to win a prize.

There will be a first, second and third prize for best tasting chili and a special prize for the most creative use of the theme. Whoever wears a “Pure Luther” shirt will have their name placed in a special drawing.
