Fish Fry

St Bernard Church in Irons will host “All You Can Eat” Fish Fry Dinners starting Ash Wednesday, March 9,2011, and every Friday during Lent from 4 to 7 p.m. Take-outs are available.

Fish Fry

The Lake County Knights of Columbus will host a Fish Fry each Friday beginning Friday, March 11 through  April 22 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the St. Ann Meals Center directly west of St. Ann Catholic Church on 9th St. in Baldwin. Take outs are available.

Spaghetti Supper

A Spaghetti Supper and Auction will be hosted by St. Ignatius Church in Luther on Saturday, March 26 from 5 p.m. until gone. Take outs are available. All proceeds will go to the Haitian Children’s Fund.

Gospel Jamboree

The Original Gospel Jamboree will take place on Saturday, March 26 at Amazing Grace Acres Church, corner of M-37 and Woodland Park Dr., south of Baldwin. Potluck is at 6:30 and music is at 7 p.m. Featured this time will be The Schwartz Family and the Faith Gospel Team. Everyone is welcome.

Trailriders to meet

The Trailriders will meet on Saturday, March 26 at 7 p.m. at the Pleasant Plains Township Hall, 885 8th St., Baldwin.

A Look Ahead

Grief Support Group to meet

A Hospice of Michigan grief support group will meet the fourth Monday of each month from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the Hospice of Michigan office, 5177 W. US-10, Suite 2 in Ludington. Note the new location! The next meeting will be Monday, March 28. This meeting is open to anyone who is mourning the loss of a loved one, whether or not the person was a Hospice patient. The meetings are free of charge. Bible Break

Everyone is invited to take a Bible Break on Tuesday at 12 p.m. each week at the Passover House, 1210 Washington St., Baldwin. Lions to meet

The Baldwin Lions Club will host a program on Leader Dogs with Kim Wattles from Honor on Tuesday, March 29 at the Hollister Senior Center, 1505 Michigan Ave. in Baldwin. The program starts at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Recovery Matters

First Baptist Church of Woodland Park invites those fighting addiction to join a program every Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the church located at 11 Mile Rd. and Bingham in Bitely. Lake County Health and Service Association

The Lake County Health and Service Association will meet on Monday, April 4 at 5 p.m. at Hollister Senior Center, 1505 Michigan Ave. in Baldwin.

AARP Income Tax program

AARP will provide an Income Tax program beginning Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mecosta County Services Building, 14485 Northland Dr., Big Rapids. Please call the Mecosta Senior Center at (231) 972-2884 for an appointment. This service is free for low income individuals and households and will continue through Thursday, April 14.

Volunteers needed

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of people willing to share some of their free time. A training will be held for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist. If you are willing to donate a few hours of your time, please contact Marie at (231) 843-2541.

Items needed for the shelter include: blankets, razors, toilet paper, dish soap and laundry soap.

Women’s Support Group is every Thursday at the United Methodist Church between FiveCAP, Inc., and MI Works beginning at 1 p.m. Volunteers are needed for child care during these meeting times. For more information contact Chrystal at (231) 843-2541 ext. 28.

JAYS program available

The Ludington Area Jaycees are now offering the JAYS program, Jaycees Against Youth Smoking, for all area schools grades 3 through 7. This program s free for schools and provides the curriculum for teachers to take directly into the classroom. Grandparents Group to meet

A support group for grandparents raising grandchildren meets the second and fourth Monday of every month at the Mason County Reformed Church, 45 S. Caregiver’s Support Group meets

Community Mental Health for Central Michigan is continuing their Caregiver’s Support Group meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. Environmental Health Division - Questions regarding environmental programs, permits, and fees can be addressed in the mornings between 8-10 a.m. with a sanitarian. Applications for permits can be obtained by mail or at the health department from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. As of Jan. 1, 2004 Environmental Health Fees were increased. W.I.C. Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children - Complete nutrition program for pregnant or breast-feeding women, infants and children under five years of age. Program  provides individual nutrition assessment that includes counseling, a monthly food package, breast-feeding information/support and referrals for other services as needed. Idlewild Library hours are 12 to p.m. on Monday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday  and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Closed on Friday. Come check out our new books and audio books.

Domestic abuse number

Department Veterans Service Officer

Ray Moore, Department Veterans Service officer, the American Legion, Michigan, accredited representative for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, will be available to assist veterans, their dependents, and survivors with claims before the VA at the Newaygo County Veteran Services, 1137 Wilcox, in White Cloud, the second and fourth Monday, of each month, from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. It is not necessary to be a member of The American Legion to receive any assistance. Call the center anytime to set up an appointment or verify availability.

Women’s Shelter volunteers

The Women’s Shelter in Ludington needs volunteers to staff the 24-hour crisis line and shelter. Volunteers must be trained, but must possess basic communication skills and have well established boundaries. Support Group for caregivers

The support group for care givers of persons with s disease and other memory loss will now be held at the Croton Township Hall, 5833 E. Division, Newaygo. If you would like to attend, but need someone to stay with your loved one during that time, please call Pam at (231) 689-2100 or 1-800-689-2100, and we will provide a trained volunteer to help you.

Community Thrift Center

The Community Thrift Center at 10th and Maple streets in Baldwin, south of the Courthouse, has clean clothing, household articles, and some furniture.The Center hours are Mondays through Fridays, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. All donations of good used articles are welcome during hours the shop is open, ifpossible. All proceeds benefit the community.

A.A. meetings

A. A. will meet Mondays, at 8 p.m., at St. Ann’s Catholic Church  in Baldwin and Saturdays at 8 p.m. at the Baldwin Congregational Church, on the corner of 8th and Beech streets. Anyone with a desire to stop drinking.
