Ages and Stages

The Ages and Stages Questionnaire is an interactive screening which helps parents of children ages 0 to 5 years recognize developmental milestones, teach activities to encourage healthy development, and educate parents on the need for early intervention. VA Assistance

The Department of Veterans Affairs will be available for Lake County enrollment/information on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at AMVETS Post No. 1988 in Baldwin. The time for the second Thursday is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the fourth Thursday is from noon to 4 p.m. Veterans who have not enrolled before need to bring a copy of their DD214 and last year’s financial information. AA to Meet

Lake County Historical Society

The Lake County Historical Society Museum Room is open Friday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m., or by appointment by calling (231) 898-2194. Museum exhibits include “Women’s Work-1915”. Lobby displays can be viewed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 830 N. Michigan Ave. in Baldwin. Please use the front entrance.

Jam Sessions

The VFW Post No. 5315, (three miles north of Baldwin), will be hosting Jam Sessions every Friday at the Post. The next session will be from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 15. Membership drive: bring your DD214 to see if you are eligible to join.

Preschool Story Hour

The Luther Library will host a Preschool Story Hour at 11 a.m. on Mondays throughout the school year. The next meeting will be Monday, April 18.

Playgroup

Parents and children ages birth to five years are invited to join the Baldwin Playgroup, meeting from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. each Monday at the Baldwin Pathfinder Library. Playgroup is designed to build on the strengths of families by teaching creative ideas to help children build their skills. Stehouwer Free Clinic

Free limited health care services are available in Cadillac for residents of Wexford, Missaukee and parts of Osceola and Lake counties with low income and no health insurance. Weekly health clinics are scheduled based on availability of volunteer health care providers. New patients need to call (231) 876-6150 for an eligibility appointment, which are held Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

Office hours are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed noon to 1 p.m.).

Living On Grief Support

A Hospice of Michigan grief support program, Living On, is held from noon to 1:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the Ludington Hospice of Michigan office, 5177 W. US 10, Suite 2. The next meeting date is Monday, April 25.

Republicans to Meet

The Lake County Republican Party will meet at 6:30 p.m. the third Monday of every month at Pompeii’s in Baldwin. The next meeting will be Monday, April 18.

Pleasant Plains Township Board to Meet

The Pleasant Plains Township Board will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 25, at the Pleasant Plains township hall, 885 Eighth St., in Baldwin.

Summers Senior Center

The Henrietta Summers Senior Center, located at 723 E. Lansing St. in historic Idlewild, is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bingo is from 11:30 a.m. to noon, lunch is from noon to 1 p.m.

Fresh Food Giveaway

Grace Mobile Pantry, together with Feeding America Food Bank, will provide free fresh food from noon until gone on the fourth Tuesday of every month. Food will be distributed in the parking lot of Lake Township Hall on Tuesday, April 26. Take M-37 south to 76th St., west to Star Lake Rd., south and west to the hall on the right.

If you are income eligible, have children in need or have a temporary distress situation and are a resident of Lake County, you may come and fill out the form on the day of distribution.

Sponsors and volunteers are from area churches and businesses, along with private individual donors. If you, your church or business would like to sponsor a monthly event, please call Sandra at (231) 898-3813. Sponsors are needed.

Baldwin Lions Club

A Caregiver Support Group will meet at 3 p.m. every third Tuesday of the month at the Ludington Senior Center, 308 S. Rowe St., Ludington. The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 19.

Antiques Appraisal Fair

The third annual antiques appraisal fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, at the Newaygo County Museum and Heritage Center. It will be $5 per item, with no limit on the amount of items.

Grandparents Support Group to Meet

Lake County Sportsman’s Club to Meet

Parkinson’s Support Group

Anyone who has Parkinson’s Disease or their caregivers are invited to come to a Mason-Lake Support Group meeting. Meetings are held at 10 a.m. on the third Wednesday of the month, at the Mason County Senior Center, 140 Main St., Scottville.

Grief Support Group Meets

A Hospice of Michigan “Living On” grief support group meets from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month, at the Hollister Senior Citizens Center, 1505 Michigan in Baldwin.

These services are provided to anyone who is mourning the loss of a loved one, whether or not the person was a hospice patient. This service is free of charge. The next meeting is Wednesday, April 20.

Car Seat Check

The Lake County Sheriff’s Department and Safe Kids West Michigan will be offering a care seat check from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, at the Baldwin Fire Department. A limited number of car seats and booster seats will be available on a first come, first served basis. 

Baldwin Rotary 5K run/walk

Baldwin Rotary 5K run/walk will be take place beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 21. This will be a fundraising event for the Bread of Life Food Pantry. For more information, call (231) 745-5044.

Volunteers Needed

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of people willing to share some of their free time. A training will be held for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist.
