Head Start

Enrollment for the Head Start Program is now open. The program is for children ages 3 (by Oct. 1) to 5 years of age. Parents may enroll their children at the Robert F. Ages and Stages

The Ages and Stages Questionnaire is an interactive screening which helps parents of children ages 0 to 5 years recognize developmental milestones, teach activities to encourage healthy development, and educate parents on the need for early intervention. Flu Shots

Lake County Historical Society

The Lake County Historical Society Museum Room is open Friday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m., or by appointment by calling (231) 898-2194. Museum exhibits include logging, a farming display, advertising memorabilia and photographs from 1890 to 2015 of the Baldwin Streetscape. Lobby displays can be viewed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 830 N. Michigan Ave. in Baldwin. Please use the front entrance.

Jam Sessions

The VFW Post No. 5315, (three miles north of Baldwin), will be hosting Jam Sessions every Friday of each month at the Post. The next session will be from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015. Membership drive: bring your DD214 to see if you are eligible to join.

The Haunted Trail

The Haunted Trail at Shrine of the Pines in Baldwin will be open from 6 to 10 p.m.on Friday, Oct. 16 and Saturday, Oct. 17. The “Light Scare Show” will be from 6 to 7 p.m. and the “Psycho Circus Trail” will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Steve Cook, the Dogman Artist, will be on site from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday only! Also featured will be free games. prizes and food.

Arts, Crafts and More Show

Parents and children ages birth to five years are invited to join the Baldwin Playgroup, meeting from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. each Monday at the Baldwin Pathfinder Library. Playgroup is designed to build on the strengths of families by teaching creative ideas to help children build their skills. Summers Senior Center

The Henrietta Summers Senior Center, located at 723 E. Grandparents Support Group Meets

Parkinson’s Support Group

Anyone who has Parkinson’s Disease or their caregivers are invited to come to a Mason-Lake Support Group meeting. Grief Support Group Meets

A Hospice of Michigan “Living On” grief support group meets from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month, at the Hollister Senior Citizens Center, 1505 Michigan in Baldwin. These services are provided to anyone who is mourning the loss of a loved one, whether or not the person was a hospice patient. This service is free of charge. The next date is Wednesday, Oct. 21. Craft Club will be hosted at the Luther Library at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22 and at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 23.

Living On Grief Support

A Hospice of Michigan grief support program, Living On, is hosted from 12 to 1:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the Ludington Hospice of Michigan office, at 5177 W. US 10, Suite 2. The next meeting date is Monday, Oct. 26.

Fresh Food Giveaway

Grace Mobile Pantry, together with the Feeding America Food Bank, will provide free fresh food from noon until gone on the fourth Tuesday of every month. Food will be distributed in the parking lot of Grace Lutheran Church, at 8636 S. M-37 in Baldwin on Tuesday, Oct. 27. If you are income eligible, have children in need or have a temporary distress situation and are a resident of Lake County, you may come and fill out the form on the day of distribution. Sponsors and volunteers are from area churches and businesses, along with private individual donors. VA Without Walls

An American Legion Veteran Service Officer will be available on the fourth Wednesday of the month at the Baldwin Department of Human Services, at 5653 M-37, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The next date will be Oct. 28. For further information, call (231) 590-6200.

Volunteers Needed

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of people willing to share some of their free time. Training will be hosted for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist. Habitat Needs Volunteers

Volunteers are needed for the Habitat Restore. Some lifting also required. Please call (231) 745-2688 to volunteer your time to a Christian organization. Volunteers are also needed to post and sell items on Ebay and for someone to design a web page. Household items in working order are also needed.

Hospice of Michigan Sesame Street Package

Hospice of Michigan is pleased to offer the Sesame Street program titled “When Families Grieve” through the Pathfinder Public Library in Baldwin. The kits are bilingual (English and Spanish) and include two booklets and a DVD. Particularly designed to help children grieve, the kit also is to help patients and families sort through complex emotions, remember the life of a loved one, and find strength in one another.

Hollister Senior Center activities

Note: Hollister Senior Center is now open on Fridays. Senior activities at Hollister Senior Center, 1505 N. Michigan Ave. in Baldwin are as follows:

There will be a Beltone representative at Hollister on the fourth Thursday of the month.

Monday through Friday, there will be coffee served all day.

There will be an exercise program from 9 to 9:30 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. 

A U.A.W. meeting and potluck will be hosted at noon the second Monday of the month.

Democratic Party Meeting, will be hosted at 6 p.m., also on the second Monday of the month.

Each Tuesday will feature a ceramics class from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A Council on Aging meeting will be hosted at 9:30 a.m. on the third Tuesday of the month.

There will also be a Triad meeting on the third Tuesday of the month at 12:30 p.m.

There will be a Swedish Weaving class from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Wednsday.

Each Thursday will feature a quilting class from 10 a.m. to noon. The first Thursday is lessons, the remaining Thursdays will be project time.

The Blood Pressure and Foot Lady will be returning to the senior center on the first Thursday of the month at 9 a.m.

Second Thursday - The Garden Club will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month.

The Thrift Center Board will meet at 9:30 a.m. on the second Friday of the month.

On the last Saturday of the month there will be Euchre games from noon to 3 p.m.
