The Department of Veterans Affairs will be available for Lake County enrollment/information on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at AMVETS Post No. 1988 in Baldwin. The time for the second Thursday is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the fourth Thursday is from noon to 4 p.m. Veterans who have not enrolled before need to bring a copy of their DD214 and last year’s financial information. Stehouwer Free Clinic

Free limited health care services are available in Cadillac for residents of Wexford, Missaukee and parts of Osceola and Lake counties with low income and no health insurance. Weekly health clinics are scheduled based on availability of volunteer health care providers. New patients need to call (231) 876-6150 for an eligibility appointment, which are hosted Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Office hours are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed noon to 1 p.m.).

Parent Workshop - Importance of Literacy

Lake Counties Great Start Collaborative and Great Start to Quality Western Resource Center invite parents, caregivers and childcare providers and community to come explore the current research as it relates to school and life success. Playgroup

Parents and children ages birth to five years are invited to join the Baldwin Playgroup, meeting from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. each Monday at the Baldwin Pathfinder Library. Playgroup is designed to build on the strengths of families by teaching creative ideas to help children build their skills. The Henrietta Summers Senior Center, located at 723 E. Fresh Food Giveaway

Grace Mobile Pantry, together with Feeding America Food Bank, will provide free fresh food from noon until gone on the fourth Tuesday of every month. Food will be distributed in the parking lot of Grace Lutheran Church, 8636 S. M-37, Baldwin, June 28. If you are income eligible, have children in need or have a temporary distress situation and are a resident of Lake County, you may come and fill out the form on the day of distribution. Sponsors and volunteers are from area churches and businesses, along with private individual donors. Spirit of the Woods Hike

Join the Spirit of the Woods Chapter of the North Country Trail Association on Saturday, July 2 at 10 a.m. for a hike. They will hike north from 96th Street south of Baldwin, near the county line between Newaygo and Lake County. The hike will be an out and back hike of about 5 miles. Lake County Historical Society

Volunteers Needed

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of people willing to share some of their free time. A training course will be offered for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist.
