VA Without Walls

The Department of Veterans Affairs will host Veterans Assistance on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month.The hours for the second Thursday are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The hours for the fourth Thursday are from 12 to 4 p.m. at AMVETS Post 1988, 1959 W. 24th St., Baldwin. FiveCAP, Inc. Board Meeting

The FiveCAP, Inc.  Board of Directors meeting  will be held on Thursday, June 26 at 4 p.m. at the FiveCAP Main Office, 302 N. Main St., Scottville.

Reading Contest

Lake County Historical Society

The Lake County Historical Museum Room is open Friday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m., or by appointment by calling (231) 898-2194. Museum exhibits include logging, one-room schools and 1930s quilts. Lobby displays can be viewed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 830 N. Michigan Ave. in Baldwin.

Yard, Plant, Craft & Bake Sale

Evergreen Covenant Women will host a Yard, Plant, Craft and Bake Sale on Saturday, June 28, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Evergreen Covenant Church, 56th St and Evergreen, Branch. All monies go to charities.

Mobile Food Pantry

The Baldwin Area Fire Department in conjunction with Feeding America, is sponsoring a one-time mobile food pantry on Saturday, June 28 at the Fire Department, located at 620 Washington Ave. Food distribution will be at noon and registration starts at 10 a.m. This is open to all residents of Lake County and surrounding areas. Gospel Jamboree

The Original Gospel Jamboree will take place on Saturday, June 28 at Amazing Grace Acres Church, corner of M-37 and Woodland Park Dr., south of Baldwin. Potluck is at 6:30 and music is at 7 p.m. Featured this time will be Riding for the Brand and the Faith Gospel Team. Everyone is welcome.

A.A. Meetings

The Idlewild Historical and Cultural Center will be open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until August 30.

A Look Ahead

Stehouwer Free Clinic

Free limited health care services are available in Cadillac for residents of Wexford, Missaukee and parts of Osceola and Lake counties with low income and no health insurance. Weekly health clinics are scheduled based on availability of volunteer health care providers. New patients need to call 231-876-6150 for an eligibility appointment, which are held Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

Office hours are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (closed noon - 1 p.m.)

Summer Youth Program Each One, Teach One

Parents and children ages birth to 5 years are invited to join the Baldwin Playgroup, meeting each Monday at the Baldwin Elementary Library from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Playgroup is designed to build on the strengths of families as creative ideas to help children build their skills are shared. Summers Senior Center

The Henrietta Summers Senior Center, located at 723 E. Narcotics Anonymous to Meet

NA will meet every Tuesday at 12 p.m. (noon) at 716 7th St. in Baldwin. The next meeting will be Tuesday, July 1, 2014.

Troutarama Meeting

There will be a Troutarama planning meeting Tuesday, July 1, at 4 p.m. at Wenger Insurance. All committee members, event chairpersons, volunteers, and interested community members are cordially invited to attend. also any written suggestions for this years festival can be submitted at the Wenger Insurance office. Dates for Troutarama 2014 are July 16 through July 20.  Remember, 2014 is the 58th Anniversary of Troutarama.

The 16th Annual Idlewild Parade will be held on Saturday, July 5, starting at 12:00 p.m. (noon). The parade route will be from the old township hall on Baldwin Road, to Williams Island. Lake County Historical Society

The Lake County Historical Society will host Lake County History Day on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Museum, 830 N. Michigan Ave., Baldwin. Surrounding Lake County Museums will display artifacts from their collections. A special display of 1920s and 1930s bathing suits will be exhibited and the What is It? Contest returns. Volunteers needed

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of people willing to share some of their free time. A training will be held for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist. If you are willing to donate a few hours of your time, please contact Marie at (231) 843-2541.

Items needed for the shelter include: curtains,diapers (infants to size 5), feminine products (pads & tampons), and socks.
