Backpacks for Baldwin Donate a new or “gently used” backpack and/or school supplies from now until August 26 to help Baldwin Community School students have a great start to their school year. Drop off sites are Na-Tah-Ka South restaurant and Lake Osceola State Bank.   FREE Clothing C.A.R.E., Inc. will host a free clothing give-away on Thursday, August 15 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday, August 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. C.A.R.E. is located at 9731 S.M-37 (just south of Houseman’s).   Dig into Reading The Luther Area Public Library will host a Summer Reading program for youngsters ages 5 to 17 on Thursday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Todays’ program is Construction machines.   Community Youth Group A Community Youth Group will meet the second and fourth Thursday of each week from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Baldwin Congregational Church, 870 Beech St. For more information, call Kelsey at 231-349-2862.

Lake County Historical Society The Lake County Historical Society Museum Room is open Friday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m., or by appointment by calling (231) 898-2194. Lobby displays can be viewed Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 830 Michigan Avenue next to the Pathfinder Library in Baldwin.   Trash Clean-up Trash Clean-up for Ellsworth and Newkirk townships will be held Saturday, August 17 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. beside Luther-Newkirk Hall. Please bring your tax bill or receipt for identification purposes. Volunteers to help unload trash are needed and welcomed!   A.A. Meetings A.A. meetings will be held each Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at the Brohman Chapel, 7731 N. Woodbridge Rd., (M-37) in Brohman. Pre-School Story Hour A Pre-School Story Hour will be held each Monday at 11 a.m. at the Luther Library through the summer. Children under 5 years must be accompanied by an adult. The children listen to a story, do a craft and have a snack. Check out the Story Hour vegetable and flower gardens   Library Board Meets The Pathfinder Library Board will meet on Monday, August 19 at 2 p.m. This meeting is open to the public.   Republicans to Meet The Lake County Republicans will meet on Monday, August 19 at Pompeii’s. The group is open to anyone who is grieving a loss. There is no charge to participate. The next meeting is Wednesday, August 21. This meeting is open to anyone who is mourning the loss of a loved one, whether or not the person was a Hospice patient. The meetings are free of charge. The next date will be Tuesday, August 27.   Fresh Food Giveaway Grace Mobile Pantry, together with Feeding America Food Bank will provide free fresh food on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 12 p.m. (noon), until gone. Food will be distributed in the parking lot of Grace Lutheran Church, 8636 S. M-37, Baldwin, on Tuesday, August 27. If you are income eligible, have children in need, or have a temporary distress situation, and are a resident of Lake County, you may come and fill out your complete information on the day of the distribution. Sponsors and volunteers are from area churches and businesses, along with private individual donations. (They meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month).   Lions Dinner The Luther lions Club will host it’s monthly dinner on Wednesday, August 28 from 5 to 7 p.m.   Weekly Music Free music will be performed at Purchase Pavilion in Luther every Wednesday at 6 p.m. On August 28 the group will be the Guitar College. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy.   Volunteers needed C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of people willing to share some of their free time. A training will be held for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist. Household items in working order are also needed.   Hospice of Michigan  Sesame Street Package Hospice of Michigan is pleased to offer the Sesame Street program titled When Families Grieve through the Pathfinder Library, in Baldwin. The kits are bilingual (English and Spanish) and include two booklets and a DVD.
