VA Assistance

The Department of Veterans Affairs will be available for Lake County Enrollment/Information on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at Amvets Post 1988 in Baldwin. The time for the second Thursday is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the fourth Thursday is from 12 to 4 p.m. Veterans who have not enrolled before need to bring a copy of their DD214 and last year’s financial information. Kindergarten Round Up

Big Jackson School, 4020 E. 13 Mile Rd., Paris will host a Kindergarten Round Up from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 23.

‘NO FINES’ Month

April is “No Fines” month at the Luther Library.

New fines are being forgiven by the Pathfinder Library in Baldwin during the month of April.

Head Start

Enrollment for the Head Start Program is now open. The program for children ages 3 (by Oct. 1) to 5 years of age.

C.O.V.E. Meetings

Craft Club

The Luther Library will host Craft Club at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 24.

Lake County Historical Society

The Lake County Historical Society Historical Museum Room is open Friday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m., or by appointment by calling (231) 898-2194. Museum exhibits include logging, a 1940s Hunting cabin, advertising memorabilia and photographs from 1890-2015 of the Baldwin Streetscape. Lobby displays can be viewed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 830 N. Michigan Ave. in Baldwin. Please use the front entrance.

Gospel Jamboree

The Original Gospel Jamboree will take place on Saturday, April 25 at Amazing Grace Acres Church, corner of M-37 and Woodland Dr., south of Baldwin. Potluck is at 6:30 and music is at 7 p.m. Featured this time will be Nate and Friends and the Faith Gospel Team. Everyone is welcome.

Children’s Movie Time

Pathfinder Community Library will host a Children’s Movie Time from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 25. The movie will be “Big Hero 6.” Refreshments will be provided.

The Luther Library will host a Super Hero Tea Party and the Movie “Big Hero 6” at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 25.

Juneteenth Fundraiser

A fundraiser to support the 2nd Annual Juneteenth Festival to be held in Idlewild, will be held beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 25 at Debbie’s Sportsman’s Lounge. There will be a silent auction, 50/50 raffle drawings, baked goods, free give-a-ways and much more.

Living On Grief Support

A Hospice of Michigan grief support program, Living On, is held the 4th Monday of the month at the Ludington Hospice of Michigan office, 5177 W. US 10, Suite 2, from 12 to 1:30 p.m. The next meeting date is April 27.

Monday School

Monday School resumes from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Luther Methodist Church.

Playgroup

Parents and children ages birth to 5 years are invited to join the Baldwin Playgroup, meeting each Monday at the Baldwin Pathfinder Library from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. Playgroup is designed to build on the strengths of families as creative ideas to help children build their skills are shared with parents. Summers Senior Center

The Henrietta Summers Senior Center, located at 723 E. Fresh Food Giveaway

Grace Mobile Pantry, together with Feeding America food Bank, will provide free fresh food on the fourth Tuesday of every month at Noon, until gone. Food will be distributed in the parking lot of Lake Township Hall, M-37 south to 76th St., west to Big Star Lake Rd. to the hall on Tuesday, April 28. If you are income eligible, have children in need or have a temporary distress situation and are a resident of Lake County, you may come and fill out your complete information on the day of distribution. Senior Enrichment Day

TRIAD of Lake County is hosting a FREE Senior Enrichment day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015. Speakers will present safety and health information of interest to seniors. Lake County Sportsmans Club to Meet

The Lake County Sportsmans Club will meet on the first Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. and on the second Thursday at 7 p.m. The Thursday meeting is a Board meeting, but members are welcome to attend. The meetings are held at the Chamber of Commerce building (with Grandma’s Treats, corner of 8th St. and M-37) in Baldwin. The next meeting will be on Saturday, May 2.

MARSP to Meet

The Osceola County Chapter of MARSP (Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel) will meet at 10 a.m. on Tuesday May 5 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 22275 Four Mile Road in Reed City. Blood Drive

The American Red Cross Blood Services will hold a Blood Drive on from 12 to 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6 at St. Ann’s Church, 749 Ninth St., Baldwin. Potential donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh 110 pounds and be in good health.

Volunteers Needed

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of People willing to share some of their free time. A training will be held for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist. If you are willing to donate a few hours of your time, please contact Marie at (231) 843-2541.

Items needed for the shelter include: curtains, diapers (infants to size five), feminine products (pads, tampons) and socks.

Hospice of Michigan Sesame Street Package

Hospice of Michigan is pleased to offer the Sesame Street program titled When Families Grieve through the Pathfinder Public Library in Baldwin. The kits are bilingual (English and Spanish) and include two booklets and a DVD. Particularly designed to help children grieve, the kit also is to help patients and families sort through complex emotions, remember the life of a loved one, and find strength in one another.
