‘NO FINES’ Month

April is “No Fines” month at the Luther Library.

New fines are being forgiven by the Pathfinder Library in Baldwin during the month of April.

Head Start

Enrollment for the Head Start Program is now open. The program for children ages 3 (by Oct. 1) to 5 years of age.

Ages and Stages

C.O.V.E. Meetings

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters) will be starting a Women’s Group to meet from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of the month If you are interested in joining this group, please call (231) 843-2541.

A group meeting is held every Thursday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Luther at 7 p.m.

Lake County Historical Society

The Lake County Historical Society Historical Museum Room is open Friday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m., or by appointment by calling (231) 898-2194. Museum exhibits include logging, a 1940s hunting cabin, advertising memorabilia and photographs from 1890-2015 of the Baldwin Streetscape. Lobby displays can be viewed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 830 N. Michigan Ave. in Baldwin. Please use the front entrance.

A.A. Meetings

Legion to Meet

The American Legion Post 263 will meet on the third Saturday of the month at 3 p.m. on April 18 at the Henrietta Summers Senior Center, 723 E. Lansing Blvd., in Idlewild.

Fireworks Auction Fundraiser

The Luther Days Association will host the Fireworks Auction Fundraiser beginning at 6 p.m., Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Luther Lions Hall. Guests are invited to bring a dish to pass. Auction items will be accepted by calling Lori at (231) 629-5634 or Dorothy at (231) 468-4123.

Stehouwer Free Clinic

Free limited health care services are available in Cadillac for residents of Wexford, Missaukee and parts of Osceola and Lake counties with low income and no health insurance. Weekly health clinics are scheduled based on availability of volunteer health care providers. New patients need to call (231)-876-6150 for an eligibility appointment, which are held Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

Office hours are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed noon to 1 p.m.).

Story Hour

Luther Library hosts Story Hour on Monday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. All ages are welcome.

Monday School

Monday School resumes from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Luther Methodist Church.


Parents and children ages birth to 5 years are invited to join the Baldwin Playgroup, meeting each Monday at the Baldwin Pathfinder Library from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. Playgroup is designed to build on the strengths of families as creative ideas to help children build their skills are shared with parents. Summers Senior Center

The Henrietta Summers Senior Center, located at 723 E. Grandparents Support Group Meets

VA Without Walls

An American Legion Veteran Service Officer will be available on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at the Baldwin Department of Human Services, 5653 M-37, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The next date will be April 22.

VA Assistance

The Department of Veterans Affairs will be available for Lake County Enrollment/Information on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at Amvets Post 1988 in Baldwin. The time for the second Thursday is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the fourth Thursday is from 12 to 4 p.m. Veterans who have not enrolled before need to bring a copy of their DD214 and last year’s financial information. A fundraiser to support the 2nd Annual Juneteenth Festival to be held in Idlewild, will be held beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 25 at Debbie’s Sportsman’s Lounge. There will be a silent auction, 50/50 raffle drawings, baked goods, free give-a-ways and much more.

Fresh Food Giveaway

Grace Mobile Pantry, together with Feeding America food Bank, will provide free fresh food on the fourth Tuesday of every month at Noon, until gone. Food will be distributed in the parking lot of Lake Township Hall, M-37 south to 76th St., west to Big Star Lake Rd. to the hall on Tuesday, April 28. If you are income eligible, have children in need or have a temporary distress situation and are a resident of Lake County, you may come and fill out your complete information on the day of distribution. Volunteers Needed

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of People willing to share some of their free time. A training will be held for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist. Hospice of Michigan Sesame Street Package

Hospice of Michigan is pleased to offer the Sesame Street program titled When Families Grieve through the Pathfinder Public Library in Baldwin. The kits are bilingual (English and Spanish) and include two booklets and a DVD. Particularly designed to help children grieve, the kit also is to help patients and families sort through complex emotions, remember the life of a loved one, and find strength in one another.
