Ages and Stages

The Ages and Stages Questionnaire is an interactive screening which helps parents of children ages 0 to 5 years recognize developmental milestones, teach activities to encourage healthy development, and educate parents on the need for early intervention. Jam Sessions

The VFW Post No. 5315, (three miles north of Baldwin), will be hosting Jam Sessions every Friday at the Post. The next session will be from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 22. Membership drive: bring your DD214 to see if you are eligible to join.

Lake County Historical Society

The Lake County Historical Society Museum Room is open Friday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m., or by appointment by calling (231) 898-2194. Museum exhibits include “Women’s Work-1915”. Lobby displays can be viewed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 830 N. Michigan Ave. in Baldwin. Please use the front entrance.

A.A. Meetings

Moonlight Ski

The Manistee Cross Country Ski Council will host a “Moonlight Ski” at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Big M Cross-Country Ski Council. The lodge will be heated and there will be a bonfire outside. The council will provide hot chocolate and dessert goodies in the lodge. Participants can bring hot dogs or marshmallows to roast. The event is open and free to the public, although donations will be gratefully accepted to help with maintenance and grooming of Big M trails.

Stehouwer Free Clinic

Free limited health care services are available in Cadillac for residents of Wexford, Missaukee and parts of Osceola and Lake counties with low income and no health insurance. Weekly health clinics are scheduled based on availability of volunteer health care providers. New patients need to call (231) 876-6150 for an eligibility appointment, which take placeTuesday and Wednesday mornings. Office hours are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed noon to 1 p.m.).

Preschool Story Hour

The Luther Library will host a Preschool Story Hour at 11 a.m. on Mondays throughout the school year. The next meeting will be Monday, Jan. 25.

Living On Grief Support

A Hospice of Michigan grief support program, Living On, will be hosted from noon to 1:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the Ludington Hospice of Michigan office, 5177 W. US 10, Suite 2. The next meeting date is Monday, Jan. 25.

Playgroup

Parents and children ages birth to five years are invited to join the Baldwin Playgroup, meeting from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. each Monday at the Baldwin Pathfinder Library. Playgroup is designed to build on the strengths of families by teaching creative ideas to help children build their skills. Summers Senior Center

The Henrietta Summers Senior Center, located at 723 E. Fresh Food Giveaway

Grace Mobile Pantry, together with Feeding America Food Bank, will provide free fresh food from noon until gone on the fourth Tuesday of every month. Food will be distributed in the parking lot of Lake Township Hall on Tuesday, Jan. 26. Take M-37 south to 76th St., go west and continue on Big Star Lake Rd.

If you are income eligible, have children in need or have a temporary distress situation and are a resident of Lake County, you may come and fill out the form on the day of distribution. Sponsors and volunteers are from area churches and businesses, along with private individual donors. If you, your church or business would like to sponsor a monthly event, please call Sandra at (231) 898-3813. Sponsors are needed.

VA Without Walls

An American Legion Veteran Service Officer will be available on the fourth Wednesday of the month at the Baldwin Department of Human Services, 5653 M-37, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The next date will be Jan. 27. For further information, call (231) 590-6200.

The finance meeting for the Lake County Board of Commissioners will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan 27, at the Lake County Courthouse.

The Lake County Commission will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, in the Lake County Courthouse. (They meet on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month).

Luther Lions Dinner

The Luther Lions Club will host its monthly Dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27.

Chamber of Commerce

The Lake County Chamber of Commerce will meet at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month at the Chamber building (corner of Eighth St. and M-37 in downtown Baldwin). The next meeting will be on Tuesday, Feb. 2.

Winter Hike

The Spirit of the Woods Chapter of the North Country Trail Association will host a Snowshoe Hike and Chili Feed beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6. The plan is to meet where the North Country Trail meets Udell Hills Rd. and walk west on an out and back hike, ending at the Big M Cross Country Ski Trail lodge.

There is about 12 to 15 inches of snow, so snowshoes are recommended. Please RSVP to Loren at (231) 510-1983 or email her at spw@northcountrytrail.org. Snowshoes may be available.

Volunteers Needed

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of people willing to share some of their free time. A training will be held for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist.

Habitat Needs Volunteers

Volunteers are needed for the Habitat Restore. Some lifting also required. Please call (231) 745-2688 to volunteer your time to a Christian organization. Volunteers are needed to post and sell items on Ebay and to build a website. Household items in working order are also needed.

Hospice of Michigan Sesame Street Package

Hospice of Michigan is pleased to offer the Sesame Street program titled “When Families Grieve” through the Pathfinder Public Library in Baldwin. The kits are bilingual (English and Spanish) and include two booklets and a DVD. Particularly designed to help children grieve, the kit also is to help patients and families sort through complex emotions, remember the life of a loved one, and find strength in one another.
