Enrollment for the Head Start Program is now open. The program for children ages 3 (by Oct. 1) to 5 years of age.

VA Assistance

The Department of Veterans Affairs will be available for Lake County Enrollment/Information on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at Amvets Post 1988 in Baldwin. The time for the second Thursday is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the fourth Thursday is from 12 to 4 p.m. Veterans who have not enrolled before need to bring a copy of their DD214 and last year’s financial information. C.O.V.E. Meetings

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters) will be starting a Women’s Group to meet on the first and third Fridays of the month. If you are interested in joining this group, please call (231) 843-2541.

Lake County Historical Society

The Lake County Historical Society Historical Museum Room is open Friday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m., or by appointment by calling (231) 898-2194. Museum exhibits include logging, one-room schools and a 1940s Hunting cabin. Lobby displays can be viewed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 830 N. Michigan Ave. in Baldwin.

Fish Fry

The Lake County Knights will host a Fish Fry on Friday, March 20 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at St. Ann’s Senior Center (behind St. Ann’s Church). Take outs are available. The dinners will be available each Friday through April 3, 2015.

Stehouwer Free Clinic

Free limited health care services are available in Cadillac for residents of Wexford, Missaukee and parts of Osceola and Lake counties with low income and no health insurance. Weekly health clinics are scheduled based on availability of volunteer health care providers. New patients need to call (231)-876-6150 for an eligibility appointment, which are held Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

Office hours are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed noon to 1 p.m.).

Story Hour

Luther Library hosts Story Hour on Monday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. All ages are welcome.

Living On Grief Support

A Hospice of Michigan grief support program, Living On, is held the 4th Monday of the month at the Ludington Hospice of Michigan office, 5177 W. US 10, Suite 2, from 12 to 1:30 p.m. The next meeting date is Monday March 23.

Playgroup

Parents and children ages birth to 5 years are invited to join the Baldwin Playgroup, meeting each Monday at the Baldwin Elementary Library from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. Playgroup is designed to build on the strengths of families as creative ideas to help children build their skills are shared with parents. Fresh Food Giveaway

Grace Mobile Pantry, together with Feeding America food Bank, will provide free fresh food on the fourth Tuesday of every month at Noon, until gone. Food will be distributed in the parking lot of Lake Township Hall,. Take m-37 south from Baldwin to 76th St.,go West to Big Star Lake Rd. to the hall on Tuesday, March 24. If you are income eligible, have children in need or have a temporary distress situation and are a resident of Lake County, you may come and fill out the form on the day of distribution. Sponsors and volunteers are from area churches and businesses, along with private individual donors. VA Without Walls

An American Legion Veteran Service Officer will be available on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at the Baldwin Department of Human Services, 5653 M-37, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The next date will be Wednesday, March 25.

Gospel Jamboree

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of People willing to share some of their free time. A training will be held for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist. Hospice of Michigan Sesame Street Package

Hospice of Michigan is pleased to offer the Sesame Street program titled When Families Grieve through the Pathfinder Public Library in Baldwin. The kits are bilingual (English and Spanish) and include two booklets and a DVD. Particularly designed to help children grieve, the kit also is to help patients and families sort through complex emotions, remember the life of a loved one, and find strength in one another.
