Enrollment for the Head Start Program is now open. The program for children ages 3 (by Oct. 1) to 5 years of age.

C.O.V.E. Meetings

Lake County Historical Society

The Lake County Historical Society Historical Museum Room is open Friday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m., or by appointment by calling (231) 898-2194. Museum exhibits include logging, one-room schools and a 1940s Northwoods hunting cabin. Lobby displays can be viewed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 830 N. Michigan Ave. in Baldwin.

Fish Fry

The Lake County Knights will host a Fish Fry on Friday, March 7 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at St. Ann’s Senior Center (behind St. Ann’s Church). Take outs are available. The dinners will be available each Friday through April 3, 2015.

Youth Chess Tourney

The 60th Annual Ludington Optimist Youth Chess Tournament will take place at the Ludington High School Cafeteria, 508 N. Washington Ave. on Saturday, March 7, beginning with registration at 9 a.m. The tournament is open to youth in grades kindergarten through 12th grade. Electronics Recycling

Electronics can be recycled on Saturday, March 7 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Luther Village Hall, 301 State St. This service is available to anyone from any where. They cannot accept cathode ray TV’s.

Lake County Sportsmans Club to Meet

The Lake County Sportsmans Club will meet on the first Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. and on the second Thursday at 7 p.m. The Thursday meeting is a board meeting, but members are welcome to attend. A Look Ahead

Stehouwer Free Clinic

Free limited health care services are available in Cadillac for residents of Wexford, Missaukee and parts of Osceola and Lake counties with low income and no health insurance. Weekly health clinics are scheduled based on availability of volunteer health care providers. New patients need to call 231-876-6150 for an eligibility appointment, which are held Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

Office hours are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed noon to 1 p.m.).

Story Hour

Luther Library hosts Story Hour on Monday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. All ages are welcome.

Grief Support Group Meets

A Hospice of Michigan grief support group meets the second Monday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Briny Building office suites conference room, 50 Filer Street, Suite 210, in Manistee. The group is open to anyone who is grieving a loss. There is no charge to participate. The next meeting is March 9, 2015. Playgroup

Parents and children ages birth to 5 years are invited to join the Baldwin Playgroup, meeting each Monday at the Baldwin Elementary Library from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. Playgroup is designed to build on the strengths of families as creative ideas to help children build their skills are shared with parents. Troutarama Meeting Notice

The Troutarama Committee would like to announce that monthly Troutarama planning meetings will be held the second Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m. at the Baldwin Business Center/Wenger Insurance. The next meeting will be Tuesday, March 10. All committee members, event chairpersons, volunteers and interested community members are encouraged to attend. Also any written suggestions for this year’s festival can be submitted at the Wenger Insurance Office. This will be the 59th Annual Troutarama. The Department of Veterans Affairs will be available for Lake County Enrollment/Information on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at Amvets Post 1988 in Baldwin. The time for the second Thursday is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the fourth Thursday is from 12 to 4 p.m. Veterans who have not enrolled before need to bring a copy of their DD214 and last year’s financial information.
