Drama Club play

The Baldwin Drama Club will present “Maid to Order”, a farce of mistaken identities, with a fast paced plot and chase scenes on Friday, April 27 at 7 p.m. at the Baldwin High School.

Pig Pickins Auction and Dinner

Amvets Post No. 1988, Baldwin will host a Pig Pickins Auction and Dinner on Saturday, April 28 beginning at 5 p.m. The post is located at 1959 24th St., north of Baldwin.

Gospel Jamboree

The Original Gospel Jamboree will take place on Saturday, April 28 at Amazing Grace Acres Church, corner of M-37 and Woodland Park Dr., south of Baldwin. Potluck is at 6:30 and music is at 7 p.m. Featured this time will be Blue Grass Echoes and the Faith Gospel Team. Everyone is welcome.

Bitely Better Conservation Club

The Bitely Better Conservation Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month (April through December) at its clubhouse at 15 Mile Rd. and M-37. The next meeting will be Wednesday, May 2. The potluck starts at 6 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m. The public is welcome.

Bake Sale

The New Life Church of God in Christ will hold a Bake Sale at the Lake-Osceola State Bank on Thrusday, May 3 from 9 a.m. until gone. Stop by for breads, pies, cake, rolls, muffins and macaroni and cheese.

Sportsman’s Club to meet

The Lake County Sportsman’s Club will meet on the first and third Saturday’s of the month at 10 a.m. The meetings are held at the Pleasant Plains Township Hall, 885 8th St. in Baldwin. ICDC to meet

The Idlewild Community Development Corporation of Yates Township in Lake County will hold their first community informational meeting on Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Historic First Baptist Church of Idlewild. Baldwin Lions to meet

Troutarama meeting

There will be a Troutarama planning meeting Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 5:15 p.m. at the Baldwin Business Center. All committee members, event chairpersons, volunteers, and interested community members are cordially invited to attend. also any written suggestions for this years festival can be submitted at the Wenger Insurance office. Dates for Troutarama 2012 are July 18-22. Remember, 2012 is the 56 th Anniversary of Troutarama.

The Finance meeting for the Lake County Board of Commissioners will take place Wednesday, May 9 at 9:30 a.m. at the Lake County Court house.

The Lake County Board of Commissioners will meet Wednesday, May 9 at 10:30 a.m. in the Commissioners Room at the Lake County Courthouse. (They meet the second and fourth Wednesday of each month).

The Lake County Historical Society will meet Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 6 p.m. at the research center located at the rear of the Tourist Center in Baldwin (corner of Michigan Ave. and 8th St.). The public is invited.

Volunteers needed

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of people willing to share some of their free time. A training will be held for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist. If you are willing to donate a few hours of your time, please contact Marie at (231) 843-2541.

Items needed for the shelter include: curtains, diapers (infant to size 5), feminine products (pads & tampons and socks.

Women’s Support Group is every Thursday at the United Methodist Church between FiveCAP, Inc., and MI Works beginning at 1 p.m. Volunteers are needed for child care during these meeting times. For more information contact Chrystal at (231) 843-2541 ext. 28.

Hospice of Michigan Sesame Street Package

Hospice of Michigan is pleased to offer the Sesame Street program titled When Families Grieve through the Pathfinder Library, in Baldwin. The kits are bilingual (English and Spanish) and include two booklets and a DVD. Particularly designed to help children grieve, the kit also is to help patients and families sort through complex emotions, remember the life of a loved one, and find strength in one another.

The Ludington Area Jaycees are now offering the JAYS program, Jaycees Against Youth Smoking, for all area schools grades 3 through 7. This program s free for schools and provides the curriculum for teachers to take directly into the classroom. Grandparents Group to meet

A support group for grandparents raising grandchildren meets the second and fourth Monday of every month at the Mason County Reformed Church, 45 S. Caregiver’s Support Group meets

Community Mental Health for Central Michigan is continuing their Caregiver’s Support Group meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. As of Jan. 1, 2004 environmental health fees were increased. Call the Health Department at (231) 745-4663 for new fee schedule. Additional hours as scheduled, available for Immunizations, W.I.C. Immunization Clinics - Available by appointment only at (231) 745-4663. NOTE: As of Jan. 1, 2004 immunization fees were increased (Medicaid accepted). Expanded hours are available as scheduled by appointment.

MI-Child Program - Children ages 0-19 years of age health insurance coverage. Applications are available. Breast and Cervical Clinic Schedule - By appointment only. Call 1-800-968-7300 to schedule.

Hearing and Vision Testing - By appointment only. Call (231) 745-4663. Hearing and vision is offered free of charge for preschool and school age children by appointment.

Children’s Special Health Care Services - The Children?s Special Health Care Services - assessments, referrals, diagnostic evaluations, and coordination for medically eligible children. Call (231) 745-4663 for information.

Environmental Health Division - Questions regarding environmental programs, permits, and fees can be addressed in the mornings between 8-10 a.m. with a sanitarian. Applications for permits can be obtained by mail or at the health department from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. As of Jan. 1, 2004 Environmental Health Fees were increased. W.I.C. Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children - Complete nutrition program for pregnant or breast-feeding women, infants and children under five years of age. Program provides individual nutrition assessment that includes counseling, a monthly food package, breast-feeding information/support and referrals for other services as needed. Support Group for caregivers

The support group for care givers of persons with s disease and other memory loss will now be held at the Croton Township Hall, 5833 E. Division, Newaygo. If you would like to attend, but need someone to stay with your loved one during that time, please call Pam at (231) 689-2100 or 1-800-689-2100, and we will provide a trained volunteer to help you.

Community Thrift Center

The Community Thrift Center at 10th and Maple streets in Baldwin, south of the Courthouse, has clean clothing, household articles, and some furniture.The Center hours are Mondays through Fridays, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. All donations of good used articles are welcome during hours the shop is open, ifpossible. All proceeds benefit the community.

A.A. meetings

A. A. will meet Mondays, at 8 p.m., at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Baldwin and Saturdays at 8 p.m. at the Baldwin Congregational Church, on the corner of 8th and Beech streets. Anyone with a desire to stop drinking.
