Spring Family Fun Day

Activities for families with children ages 4 and over will be featured on Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.at the Kettunen Center east of Tustin. Auditions for a Musical Revue

In preparation for more events in connection with the Idlewild Centennial, auditions for a Musical Revue will be held on Saturday, April 14 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Henrietta Summers Senior Center, 533 East Lansing Blvd., Idlewild. Baked Potato Supper

The Lake County Community Foundation will host it’s 22nd Annual Baked Potato Supper on Saturday, April 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the St. Ann Senior Center, 690 9th St.

FIreworks Fundraiser Auction

The Luther Days Association will host a Fireworks Fundraiser Auction on Saturday, April 14 beginning at 6 p.m. with the auction starting at 7 p.m. Music will be provided by the Guitar College and all proceeds support the fireworks display at Luther Logging Days in July. A Look Ahead

Grief Support Group to meet

A Hospice of Michigan grief support group meets the third Monday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Hollister Senior Citizens Center, 1505 Michigan in Baldwin.

These services are provided to anyone who is mourning the loss of a loved one, whether or not the person was a hospice patient. Hospice of Michigan Grief Support programs are available free of charge.

Republicans to meet

The Lake County Republicans will meet on Monday, April 16 at Pompeii’s. The potluck is at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting is at 6:30 p.m.

Skywarn Training

A Skywarn Training for volunteer storm spotters will be held on Monday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Webber Fire Department, 2324 W. Springtime St. The classes are free and last about two hours.

Grandparents Support Group meets

Lake County Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group will meet on Tuesday, April 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Family Health Care Loretta Adams-Ashby Health Center located at 1101 Washington Ave. Light dinner and childcare provided. For more information call (231) 745-2000.

Fresh Food Giveaway

Grace Mobile Pantry, together with Feeding America Food Bank will provide free fresh food on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 12 p.m. (noon), until gone. Food will be distributed in the parking lot of the Lake Township Hall, 15580 Star Lake Dr., Baldwin, on Tuesday, April 24. If you are income eligible, have children in need, or have a temporary distress situation, you may come and fill out your complete information on the day of the distribution. Sponsors and volunteers are from area churches and businesses, along with private individual donations. Commission meetings

The Lake County Board of Commissioners will meet Wednesday, April 25 at 10:30 a.m. in the Commissioners Room at the Lake County Courthouse. (They meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month).

Volunteers needed

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of people willing to share some of their free time. A training will be held for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist. If you are willing to donate a few hours of your time, please contact Marie at (231) 843-2541.

Items needed for the shelter include: curtains, diapers (infants to Size 5), feminine products (pads & tampons), and socks.

Women’s Support Group is every Thursday at the United Methodist Church between FiveCAP, Inc., and MI Works beginning at 1 p.m. Volunteers are needed for child care during these meeting times. For more information contact Chrystal at (231) 843-2541 ext. 28.

Habitat needs volunteers

Volunteers are needed for the Habitat Restore. Some lifting also required. Please call (231) 745-2688 to volunteer your time to a Christian organization. Household items in working order are also needed.

Environmental Health Division - Questions regarding environmental programs, permits, and fees can be addressed in the mornings between 8-10 a.m. with a sanitarian. Applications for permits can be obtained by mail or at the health department from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. As of Jan. 1, 2004 Environmental Health Fees were increased. W.I.C. Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children - Complete nutrition program for pregnant or breast-feeding women, infants and children under five years of age. Program provides individual nutrition assessment that includes counseling, a monthly food package, breast-feeding information/support and referrals for other services as needed.
