Yard Sale

The Ruby Creek Conservation and Recreation Club is having a Yard Sale Friday, July 1 and Saturday, July 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The location is 8 miles north of Walkerville or 10 miles south of Walhalla.

Bake Sale/Book Sale

Pathfinder Library in Baldwin will host an Outdoor Bake Sale and Indoor Book Sale on Friday, July 1 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Donations are needed. All proceeds benefit the Pathfinder Library.

Luther Logging Days

Luther Logging Days will be held July 1, 2 and 3. The Parade starts at 11 a.m on Saturday, July 2 with the Car Show to follow. Fireworks will be at dusk on July 3. For a schedule of events go to www.luthermi.com and click on Luther Logging Days.

Idlewild Parade 2011

The 13th Annual Idlewild Independence Day Parade will take place on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 12 p.m. Line up is at the old township hall on Baldwin Road at 11 a.m.

A Look Ahead

Democrats

There will be no meeting in July. The next meeting will be Monday, August 8 at 5 p.m. at Hollister Senior Center, 1505 Michigan Ave. in Baldwin. A Special election will be held for Party Chair, 2nd Vice Chair and Treasurer. Nominations will be accepted at the meeting.

Bible Break

Everyone is invited to take a Bible Break on Tuesday at 12 p.m. each week at the Passover House, 1210 Washington St., Baldwin. Summer Story Hour

The Pathfinder Library in Baldwin will host a Summer Story Hour for youngsters ages 4 to 8 on Wednesdays from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The program will continue until July 13. (A parent must remain in the library during story hour!).

Golf League

The Wednesday Morning Ladies Golf League meets Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Marquette Trails Golf Club. Anyone interested may join the group.

Recovery Matters

First Baptist Church of Woodland Park invites those fighting addiction to join a program every Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the church located at 11 Mile Rd. and Bingham in Bitely. Bitely Better Conservation Club

The Bitely Better Conservation Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month (April through December) at its clubhouse at 15 Mile Rd. and M-37. The next meeting will be Wednesday, July 6. The potluck starts at 6 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m. The public is welcome.

Echo Thru The Timber

Antique Show and Sale

The Ludington Branch of The American Association of University Women is sponsoring an Antique Show and Sale on Sunday, July 10 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Western Michigan Fairgrounds on US10. All proceeds will fund local scholarships.

Grief Support Group to meet

A Hospice of Michigan grief support group meets the second Monday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Briny Building office suites conference room, 50 Filer St., Ste. 210 in Manistee. The group is open to anyone who is grieving a loss. There is no charge to participate. The next meeting is Monday, July 11. AMVETS to meet

The monthly meeting of AMVETS Post 1988 will be held on Monday, July 11 at 7 p.m. at the Post at 1959 W. 24th St. in Baldwin.

The VFW Peacock Post will meet on Tuesday, July 12 at 7 p.m. at the Post on M-37 north of Baldwin.

Troutarama meeting

There will be a Troutarama planning meeting Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 5 p.m. at the Baldwin Business Center. All committee members, event chairpersons, volunteers, and interested community members are cordially invited to attend. Dates for Troutarama 2011 are July 20-24. Remember, 2011 is the 55 th Anniversary of Troutarama.

Baldwin Lions to meet

The Baldwin Lions Club meets on the second Tuesday of the month at Hollister Senior Center. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 12 at 6 p.m. The Baldwin Lions Club provides eyeglasses and hearing aids for local residents. For more information call 231-745-4524.

The Lake County Board of Commissioners will meet Wednesday, July 13 at 10:30 a.m. in the Commissioners Room at the Lake County Courthouse. (They meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month).

Community Fellowship

Covenant Community United Methodist Church invites adults to Community Fellowship the second Wednesday of the month from 12 to 3 p.m. The next meeting is Wednesday, July 13. The Church is located at 5330 S. M-37 (north of FiveCap, Inc.) Baldwin. Everyone is welcome.

VFW Auxiliary to meet

The Peacock Post No. 5315 Ladies Auxiliary will meet on Thursday, July 14 at 2 p.m. at the Post on M-37 north of Baldwin.

Canoe Trip

The Spirit of the Woods Chapter of the North Country Trail Association will host a canoe trip on the Big Manistee River from Hodenpyle Dam to Red Bridge on Saturday, July 16 beginning at 10 a.m. Call for arrangements by July 15 to 231-729-0544.

Volunteers needed

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of people willing to share some of their free time. A training will be held for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist. If you are willing to donate a few hours of your time, please contact Marie at (231) 843-2541.

Items needed for the shelter include: blankets, razors, toilet paper, dish soap and laundry soap.

Women’s Support Group is every Thursday at the United Methodist Church between FiveCAP, Inc., and MI Works beginning at 1 p.m. Volunteers are needed for child care during these meeting times. For more information contact Chrystal at (231) 843-2541 ext. 28.

Hospice of Michigan Sesame Street package

Hospice of Michigan is pleased to offer the Sesame Street program titled When Families Grieve through the Pathfinder Library, in Baldwin. The kits are bilingual (English and Spanish) and include two booklets and a DVD. Particularly designed to help children grieve, the kit also is to help patients and families sort through complex emotions, remember the life of a loved one, and find strength in one another.

Habitat needs volunteers

The Ludington Area Jaycees are now offering the JAYS program, Jaycees Against Youth Smoking, for all area schools grades 3 through 7. This program s free for schools and provides the curriculum for teachers to take directly into the classroom. Grandparents Group to meet

A support group for grandparents raising grandchildren meets the second and fourth Monday of every month at the Mason County Reformed Church, 45 S. Caregiver’s Support Group meets

Community Thrift Center

The Community Thrift Center at 10th and Maple streets in Baldwin, south of the Courthouse, has clean clothing, household articles, and some furniture.The Center hours are Mondays through Fridays, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. All donations of good used articles are welcome during hours the shop is open, ifpossible. All proceeds benefit the community.

A.A. meetings

A. A. will meet Mondays, at 8 p.m., at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Baldwin and Saturdays at 8 p.m. at the Baldwin Congregational Church, on the corner of 8th and Beech streets. Anyone with a desire to stop drinking.
