Church Anniversary

The 130th Anniversary of the Dover Baptist Church of Bristol will be celebrated beginning Saturday, June 25 at 7 p.m. with an old-fashioned hymn sing. Sunday, June 26 events include Sunday school at 10 a.m., Morning service at 11 a.m. with former pastor, Rev. Richard Beach, 12:30 p.m. carry-in meal and the Anniversary service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jack Nicholes of Sunnyside Baptist Church, Cadillac.

A Look Ahead

Summer Reading Contest

The Pathfinder Library in Baldwin will hold a Summer Reading Contest for youngsters pre-K through 12th grade from July 1 to August 1. Weekly prizes and Grand Prizes will be awarded. Entry forms are available at the library.

Veterans Assistance

A Disabled American Veterans National Service Officer will be available to assist with veterans claims or to answer questions on Monday, June 27, 2011 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Amvets Post 110, 127 West Cass St., Cadillac.

Grief Support Group to meet

A Hospice of Michigan grief support group will meet the fourth Monday of each month from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the Hospice of Michigan office, 5177 W. US-10, Suite 2 in Ludington. Note the new location! The next meeting will be Monday, June 27. This meeting is open to anyone who is mourning the loss of a loved one, whether or not the person was a Hospice patient. The meetings are free of charge. Bible Break

Everyone is invited to take a Bible Break on Tuesday at 12 p.m. each week at the Passover House, 1210 Washington St., Baldwin. Fresh Food Giveaway

Grace Mobile Pantry, together with Feeding America Food Bank will provide free fresh food on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 12 p.m. (noon), until gone. Food will be distributed in the parking lot of Grace Lutheran Church, 8636 S. M-37, Baldwin, on Tuesday, June 28. If you are income eligible, have children in need, or have a temporary distress situation, you may come and fill out your complete information on the day of the distribution. Sponsors and volunteers are from area churches and businesses, along with private individual donations. Scottville Fun Day

The Scottville Optimist Club and the Scottville Clown Band will provide a fun day for the Scottville community on Tuesday, June 28 at the Scottville Optimist Band Shell. Activities begin at 5 p.m. with a children’s carnival until 7 p.m. The patriotic concert will follow at 7:30 p.m. A collection for donation to Hospice of Michigan will be held by the Optimists at the concert. Summer Story Hour

The Pathfinder Library in Baldwin will host a Summer Story Hour for youngsters ages 4 to 8 on Wednesdays from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The program will continue until July 13. (A parent must remain in the library during story hour!).

Recovery Matters

First Baptist Church of Woodland Park invites those fighting addiction to join a program every Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the church located at 11 Mile Rd. and Bingham in Bitely. FiveCAP, Inc. Board Meeting

The FiveCAP, Inc. Board of Directors meeting will be held on Thursday, June 30 at 4 p.m. at the FiveCAP Main Office, 302 N. Main St., Scottville.

Bake Sale/Book Sale

Pathfinder Library in Baldwin will host an Outdoor Bake Sale and Indoor Book Sale on Friday, July 1 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Donations are needed. All proceeds benefit the Pathfinder Library.

Yard Sale

The Ruby Creek Conservation and Recreation Club is having a Yard Sale Friday, July 1 and Saturday, July 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The location is 8 miles north of Walkerville or 10 miles south of Walhalla.

Idlewild Parade 2011

Bitely Better Conservation Club

The Bitely Better Conservation Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month (April through December) at its clubhouse at 15 Mile Rd. and M-37. The next meeting will be Wednesday, July 6. The potluck starts at 6 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m. The public is welcome.

Volunteers needed

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of people willing to share some of their free time. A training will be held for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist. If you are willing to donate a few hours of your time, please contact Marie at (231) 843-2541.

Items needed for the shelter include: curtains, diapers (infant to size 5), feminine products (pads & tampons), and socks.

Women’s Support Group is every Thursday at the United Methodist Church between FiveCAP, Inc., and MI Works beginning at 1 p.m. Volunteers are needed for child care during these meeting times. For more information contact Chrystal at (231) 843-2541 ext. 28.

Hospice of Michigan Sesame Street package

Hospice of Michigan is pleased to offer the Sesame Street program titled When Families Grieve through the Pathfinder Library, in Baldwin. The kits are bilingual (English and Spanish) and include two booklets and a DVD. Particularly designed to help children grieve, the kit also is to help patients and families sort through complex emotions, remember the life of a loved one, and find strength in one another.

Hearing and Vision Testing - By appointment only. Call (231) 745-4663. Hearing and vision is offered free of charge for preschool and school age children by appointment.

Children’s Special Health Care Services - The Children’s Special Health Care Services - assessments, referrals, diagnostic evaluations, and coordination for medically eligible children. Call (231) 745-4663 for information.

Environmental Health Division - Questions regarding environmental programs, permits, and fees can be addressed in the mornings between 8-10 a.m. with a sanitarian. Applications for permits can be obtained by mail or at the health department from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. As of Jan. 1, 2004 Environmental Health Fees were increased. W.I.C. Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children - Complete nutrition program for pregnant or breast-feeding women, infants and children under five years of age. Program provides individual nutrition assessment that includes counseling, a monthly food package, breast-feeding information/support and referrals for other services as needed. The Pathfinder Community Library, 812 Michigan Ave., Baldwin is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Closed Thursday and Sunday.

Department Veterans Service Officer

Ray Moore, Department Veterans Service officer, the American Legion, Michigan, accredited representative for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, will be available to assist veterans, their dependents, and survivors with claims before the VA at the Newaygo County Veteran Services, 1137 Wilcox, in White Cloud, the second and fourth Monday, of each month, from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. It is not necessary to be a member of The American Legion to receive any assistance. Call the center anytime to set up an appointment or verify availability.

A.A. meetings

A. A. will meet Mondays, at 8 p.m., at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Baldwin and Saturdays at 8 p.m. at the Baldwin Congregational Church, on the corner of 8th and Beech streets. Anyone with a desire to stop drinking.
