All items for the Lake County Star Community Planner must be in the Lake County Star office no later than NOON ON MONDAY for that week’s paper.

TEFAP food available

FiveCAP, Inc. will be distributing canned and packaged foods from The Emergency Food Assistance Program for families (eligibility based on household income), for Lake County residents on Thursday, June 2, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the FiveCAP, Inc. Office, 2476 W. 44th Street, Baldwin.

Blood Drive

The American Red Cross Blood Services will hold a Blood Drive on Thursday, June 2 from 12 to 5:45 p.m. at Grand Oaks Nursing Center, 600 Denmark St., in Baldwin. Potential donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh 110 pounds and be in good health.

59th Annual Conclave

The National Idlewilders, Inc. 59th Annual Conclave will be hosted this year in Idlewild by the Original Chicago Idlewilders, Inc. Free Hiking

On Saturday, June 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Spirit of the Woods chapter of the North Country Trail Association will have members available at two trailheads of the North Country Trail. Chapter members will be available at the Timber Creek trailhead and the trailhead on M55 and Firetower Road about 13 miles east of Manistee. The Forest Service has waived the fee at this event for both sites. Free gorp will be available. LifeWalk 2011

Care Net of Cadillac is hosting a 2 mile LifeWalk on Saturday, June 4. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the walk will start at 9 a.m. at the Rotary Performing Arts Pavilion in Cadillac. For more information or a pledge form, contact Care Net of Cadillac at (231) 775-1545. LifeWalk 2011 gives everyone an opportunity to raise money to help men and women in unplanned pregnancies and families facing difficult situations. Other activities include: balloons, face painting and refreshments.

Lake County Health and Service Association

The Lake County Health and Service Association will meet on Monday, June 6 at 5 p.m. at Hollister Senior Center, 1505 Michigan Ave. in Baldwin.

Bible Break

Everyone is invited to take a Bible Break on Tuesday at 12 p.m. each week at the Passover House, 1210 Washington St., Baldwin. MARSP to meet

The Osceola County Chapter of Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel will meet on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at the LeRoy Township Hall, 101 Bevins Street at 1 p.m. There will be a musical program and snacks will be provided. The Finance meeting for the Lake County Board of Commissioners will take place Wednesday, June 8 at 9:30 a.m. at the Lake County Court house.

The Lake County Board of Commissioners will meet Wednesday, June 8 at 10:30 a.m. in the Commissioners Room at the Lake County Courthouse.

Community Fellowship

Covenant Community United Methodist Church invites adults to Community Fellowship the second Wednesday of the month from 12 to 3 p.m. The next meeting is Wednesday, June 8. The Church is located at 5330 S. M-37 (north of FiveCap, Inc.) Baldwin. Everyone is welcome.

Lake County Historical Society meeting

The Lake County Historical Society will meet Wednesday, June 8, 2010 at 6 p.m. at the research center located at the rear of the Tourist Center in Baldwin (corner of Michigan Ave. and 8th St.). The public is invited.

Chamber to meet

The Lake County Chamber of Commerce will meet on Wednesday, June 8 at 7 p.m.

Legion to meet

The American Legion Post 133 will meet on Wednesday, June 8 at 7 p.m. at the Pathfinder Library in Baldwin.

VFW Auxiliary to meet

The Peacock Post  #5315 Ladies Auxiliary will meet on Thursday, June 9 at 2 p.m. at the Post on M-37 north of Baldwin.

Bobbie Brown Memorial Kids Fishing Derby

The Wellston Boosters Association annual Bobbie Brown Memorial Kids Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, May 11 with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Crystal Lake Park in Wellston. Fishing is on shore only from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The contest is open to youngsters ages 3 to 16. All children MUST be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older at all times. A casting contest will begin at 9 a.m. at the Park in Wellston. All participants whoa re pre-registered will be placed in a special drawing. Grief Support Group to meet

A Hospice of Michigan grief support group meets the second Monday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Briny Building office suites conference room, 50 Filer St., Ste. 210 in Manistee. The group is open to anyone who is grieving a loss. There is no charge to participate. The next meeting is Monday, June 13. Troutarama Meeting

There will be a Troutarama planning meeting Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 5 p.m. at the Baldwin Business Center. All committee members, event chairpersons, volunteers, and interested community members are cordially invited to attend. Dates for Troutarama 2011 are July 20-24. Remember, 2011 is the 55 th Anniversary of Troutarama.

Baldwin Lions to meet

The Baldwin Lions Club meets on the second Tuesday of the month at Hollister Senior Center. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 14 at 6 p.m. The Baldwin Lions Club provides eyeglasses and hearing aids for local residents. For more information call 231-745-4524.

Yard Sale

The Ruby Creek Conservation and Recreation Club is having a Yard Sale on Friday, July 1 and Saturday, July 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Baked goods, coffee and hot dogs will be sold. To donate items for the sale or have your own booth, call 231-898-2779.
