100th Anniversary

On Friday, May 27, 2011 at 2 p.m., Northern Michigan Christian School will be hosting a “living Rock” dedication in honor and to commemorate the school’s 100 year anniversary and a century of service to the children and families in the greater McBain community.

Yard and Bake Sale

The Pathfinder Community Library in Baldwin will host an Indoor Yard and Bake Sale on Friday, May 27 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All donations appreciated. All proceeds benefit the Library General Fund.

Huge Flea Market Sale

The Idlewild Parade Committee will hold a Huge Flea Market Sale on Friday, May 27 and Saturday, May 28 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at US 10 and Broadway in Idlewild.

Pancake Breakfast

A Pancake Breakfast will be held on Saturday, May 28 from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Bitely Community Building in downtown Bitely. A hot dog lunch will also be available. An auction will be held at 11 a.m. with a golf cart parade and races after the auction. All proceeds go to the Bitely Homecoming Festival.

Bake Sale

The Bitely Women’s Club will host a Bake Sale on Saturday, May 28 from 10 a.m. until gone. The location will be in front of the Bitely Community Building. Proceeds go to local community needs.

Gospel Jamboree

The Original Gospel Jamboree will take place on Saturday, May 28 at Amazing Grace Acres Church, corner of M-37 and Woodland Park Dr., south of Baldwin. Potluck is at 6:30 and music is at 7 p.m. Featured this time will be The Northwood Brothers and the Faith Gospel Team. Everyone is welcome.

Bible Break

Everyone is invited to take a Bible Break on Tuesday at 12 p.m. each week at the Passover House, 1210 Washington St., Baldwin. Recovery Matters

First Baptist Church of Woodland Park invites those fighting addiction to join a program every Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the church located at 11 Mile Rd. and Bingham in Bitely. Bitely Better Conservation Club

The Bitely Better Conservation Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month (April through December) at its clubhouse at 15 Mile Rd. and M-37. The next meeting will be Wednesday, June 1. The potluck starts at 6 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m. The public is welcome.

Yard Sale

The Ruby Creek Conservation and Recreation Club is having a Yard Sale on Friday, July 1 and Saturday, July 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Baked goods, coffee and hot dogs will be sold. To donate items for the sale or have your own booth, call 231-898-2779.

TEFAP food available

FiveCAP, Inc. will be distributing canned and packaged foods from The Emergency Food Assistance Program for families (eligibility based on household income), for Lake County residents on Thursday, June 2, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the FiveCAP, Inc. Office, 2476 W. 44th Street, Baldwin.

Blood Drive

The American Red Cross Blood Services will hold a Blood Drive on Wednesday, June 2 from 12 to 5:45 p.m. at Grand Oaks Nursing Center, 600 Denmark St., in Baldwin. Potential donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh 110 pounds and be in good health.

59th Annual Conclave

The National Idlewilders, Inc. 59th Annual Conclave will be hosted this year in Idlewild by the Original Chicago Idlewilders, Inc. Free Hiking

On Saturday, June 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Spirit of the Woods chapter of the North Country Trail Association will have members available at two trailheads of the North Country Trail. Chapter members will be available at the Timber Creek trailhead (10 miles north and west of Baldwin or 23 miles east of Ludington) and the trailhead on M55 and Firetower Road about 13 miles east of Manistee. The Forest Service has waived the fee at this event for both sites. Free gorp will be available. LifeWalk 2011

Care Net of Cadillac is hosting a 2 mile LifeWalk on Saturday, June 4. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the walk will start at 9 a.m. at the Rotary Performing Arts Pavilion in Cadillac. LifeWalk 2011 gives everyone an opportunity to raise money to help men and women in unplanned pregnancies and families facing difficult situations. The Lake County Health and Service Association will meet on Monday, June 6 at 5 p.m. at Hollister Senior Center, 1505 Michigan Ave. in Baldwin.

MARSP to meet

Commission meetings

The Lake County Board of Commissioners will meet Wednesday, June 8 at 10:30 a.m. in the Commissioners Room at the Lake County Courthouse. (They meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month).

Community Fellowship

Covenant Community United Methodist Church invites adults to Community Fellowship the second Wednesday of the month from 12 to 3 p.m. The next meeting is Wednesday, June 8. The Church is located at 5330 S. M-37 (north of FiveCap, Inc.) Baldwin. Everyone is welcome.

Lake County Historical Society meeting

The Lake County Historical Society will meet June 8, 2010 at 6 p.m. at the research center located at the rear of the Tourist Center in Baldwin (corner of Michigan Ave. and 8th St.). The public is invited.

Volunteers needed

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of people willing to share some of their free time. A training will be held for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist. If you are willing to donate a few hours of your time, please contact Marie at (231) 843-2541.

Items needed for the shelter include: curtains, diapers (infant to size 5), feminine products (pads & tampons), and socks.

Women’s Support Group is every Thursday at the United Methodist Church between FiveCAP, Inc., and MI Works beginning at 1 p.m. Volunteers are needed for child care during these meeting times. For more information contact Chrystal at (231) 843-2541 ext. 28.

Hospice of Michigan Sesame Street package

Hospice of Michigan is pleased to offer the Sesame Street program titled When Families Grieve through the Pathfinder Library, in Baldwin. The kits are bilingual (English and Spanish) and include two booklets and a DVD. Particularly designed to help children grieve, the kit also is to help patients and families sort through complex emotions, remember the life of a loved one, and find strength in one another.

Habitat needs volunteers

The Ludington Area Jaycees are now offering the JAYS program, Jaycees Against Youth Smoking, for all area schools grades 3 through 7. This program s free for schools and provides the curriculum for teachers to take directly into the classroom. W.I.C. Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children - Complete nutrition program for pregnant or breast-feeding women, infants and children under five years of age. Program provides individual nutrition assessment that includes counseling, a monthly food package, breast-feeding information/support and referrals for other services as needed.
