Community Garage and Yard Sale

The Lake City Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Community Garage/Yard Sale on Saturday, May 21 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Maps are available at area businesses, at the Chamber office or at the Chamber website There will also be the Kiwanis Club Annual Auction at 3 p.m. at the American Legion Post No. 300 in downtown Lale City on Saturday, May 21.

A Look Ahead

Grief Support Group to meet

A Hospice of Michigan grief support group will meet the fourth Monday of each month from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the Hospice of Michigan office, 5177 W. US-10, Suite 2 in Ludington. Note the new location. The next meeting will be Monday, May 23. This meeting is open to anyone who is mourning the loss of a loved one, whether or not the person was a Hospice patient. The meetings are free of charge. Bible Break

Everyone is invited to take a Bible Break on Tuesday at noon each week at the Passover House, 1210 Washington St., Baldwin. Fresh Food Giveaway

Grace Mobile Pantry, together with Feeding America Food Bank will provide free fresh food on the fourth Tuesday of every month at noon, until gone. Food will be distributed in the parking lot of Grace Lutheran Church, 8636 S. M-37, Baldwin, on Tuesday, May 24. If you are income eligible, have children in need, or have a temporary distress situation, you may come and fill out your complete information on the day of the distribution. Sponsors and volunteers are from area churches and businesses, along with private individual donations. The Finance meeting for the Lake County Board of Commissioners will take place Wednesday,May 25 at 9:30 a.m. at the Lake County Court house.

The Lake County Board of Commissioners will meet Wednesday, May 25 at 10:30 a.m. in the Commissioners Room at the Lake County Courthouse. (They meet the second and fourth Wednesday of each month).

Life Skills/Stress and Anger Management Seminar

The Pathfinder Community Library in Baldwin will host an Indoor Yard and Bake Sale on Friday, May 27 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All donations appreciated. All proceeds benefit the Library General Fund.

100th Anniversary

On Friday, May 27, 2011 at 2 p.m., Northern Michigan Christian School will be hosting a “living Rock” dedication in honor and to commemorate the school’s 100 year anniversary and a century of service to the children and families in the greater McBain community.

Bake Sale

The Bitely Women’s Club will host a Bake Sale on Saturday, May 28 from 10 a.m. until gone. The location will be in front of the Bitely Community Building. Proceeds go to local community needs.

Gospel Jamboree

The Original Gospel Jamboree will take place on Saturday, May 28 at Amazing Grace Acres Church, corner of M-37 and Woodland Park Dr., south of Baldwin. Potluck is at 6:30 and music is at 7 p.m. Featured this time will be The Northwood Brothers and the Faith Gospel Team. Everyone is welcome.

Bitely Better Conservation Club

The Bitely Better Conservation Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month (April through December) at its clubhouse at 15 Mile Rd. and M-37. The next meeting will be Wednesday, June 1. The potluck starts  at 6 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m. The public is welcome.

Yard Sale

The Ruby Creek Conservation and Recreation Club is having a Yard Sale on Friday, July 1 and Saturday, July 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Baked goods, coffee and hot dogs will be sold. To donate items for the sale or have your own booth, call 231-898-2779.

59th Annual Conclave

The National Idlewilders, Inc. 59th Annual Conclave will be hosted this year in Idlewild by the Original Chicago Idlewilders, Inc. Volunteers needed

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of people willing to share some of their free time. A training will be held for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist. If you are willing to donate a few hours of your time, please contact Marie at (231) 843-2541.

Items needed for the shelter include: blankets, razors, toilet paper, dish soap and laundry soap.

Women’s Support Group is every Thursday at the United Methodist Church between FiveCAP, Inc., and MI Works beginning at 1 p.m. Volunteers are needed for child care during these meeting times. For more information contact Chrystal at (231) 843-2541 ext. 28.

Hospice of Michigan Sesame Street package

Hospice of Michigan is pleased to offer the Sesame Street program titled When Families Grieve through the Pathfinder Library, in Baldwin. The kits are bilingual (English and Spanish) and include two booklets and a DVD. Particularly designed to help children grieve, the kit also is to help patients and families sort through complex emotions, remember the life of a loved one, and find strength in one another.

As of Jan. 1, 2004 environmental health fees were increased. Call the Health Department at (231) 745-4663 for new fee schedule. Additional hours as scheduled, available for Immunizations, W.I.C. Immunization Clinics - Available by appointment only at (231) 745-4663. NOTE: As of Jan. 1, 2004 immunization fees were increased (Medicaid accepted). Expanded hours are available as scheduled by appointment.

MI-Child Program - Children ages 0-19 years of age health insurance coverage. Applications are available. Breast and Cervical Clinic Schedule - By appointment only. Call 1-800-968-7300 to schedule.

Hearing and Vision Testing - By appointment only. Call (231) 745-4663. Hearing and vision is offered free of charge for preschool and school age children by appointment.

Children’s Special Health Care Services - The Children’s Special Health Care Services - assessments, referrals, diagnostic evaluations, and coordination for medically eligible children. Call (231) 745-4663 for information.

Environmental Health Division - Questions regarding environmental programs, permits, and fees can be addressed in the mornings between 8-10 a.m. with a sanitarian. Applications for permits can be obtained by mail or at the health department from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. As of Jan. 1, 2004 Environmental Health Fees were increased. W.I.C. Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children - Complete nutrition program for pregnant or breast-feeding women, infants and children under five years of age. Program  provides individual nutrition assessment that includes counseling, a monthly food package, breast-feeding information/support and referrals for other services as needed.
