Lake County Health and Service Association

The Lake County Health and Service Association will meet on Monday, Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. at Grand Oaks Nursing Center, 600 Denway, in Baldwin.

Lake County Finance meeting

The Finance meeting for the Lake County Board of Commissioners will take place Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 9:30 a.m. at the Lake County Court house.

Commission meetings

The Lake County Board of Commissioners will meet Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 10:30 a.m. in the Commissioners Room at the Lake County Courthouse. (They meet the second and fourth Wednesday of each month).

Lake County Historical Society

The Lake County Historical Society will meet Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012 at 6 p.m. at the research center located at the rear of the Tourist Center in Baldwin (corner of Michigan Ave. and 8th St.). The public is invited.

Chamber to meet

The Lake County Chamber of Commerce will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012 at 7 p.m.

Legion to meet

The American Legion Post No. 133 will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Pathfinder Library in Baldwin.

VFW Auxiliary to meet

The Peacock Post No. 5315 Ladies Auxiliary will meet on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Post on M-37 north of Baldwin.

Idlewild African American History event

In celebration of Black History month, Percy Davis will speak at the Henrietta Summers Senior Center, 723 E. Lansing Blvd., Idlewild on Friday, Feb. 10 at noon. Mr. Davis has many pictures and memories of the area.

Indoor Yard and Bake Sale

The V.F.W. Post No. 5315 Auxiliary will host an Indoor Yard and Bake Sale on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. To rent a table, call Bonnie at (231) 745-4010 (days) or (231) 745-7047 (evenings). The V.F.W. is located four miles north of Baldwin on M-37.

Grief Support Group to meet

A Hospice of Michigan grief support group meets the second Monday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Briny Building office suites conference room, 50 Filer St., Ste. 210 in Manistee. The group is open to anyone who is grieving a loss. There is no charge to participate. The next meeting is Monday, Feb. 13. Dems to meet

The Lake County Democratic Party will meet every month through November 2012 at the Hollister Senior Center, 1505 Michigan Ave., in Baldwin. The next meeting will be Monday, Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. New members are welcome.

AMVETS to meet

The monthly meeting of AMVETS Post No. 1988 will be held on Monday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Post at 1959 W. 24th St. in Baldwin.

Troutarama meeting

There will be a Troutarama planning meeting Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012 at 5:15 p.m. at the Baldwin Business Center. All committee members, event chairpersons, volunteers, and interested community members are cordially invited to attend. Also any written suggestions for this years festival can be submitted at the Wenger Insurance office. This will be the 56th Annual Troutarama. Dates for Troutarama are July 18-22.

Baldwin Lions to meet

The Baldwin Lions Club meets on the second Tuesday of the month at Hollister Senior Center. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 6 p.m. The Baldwin Lions Club provides eyeglasses and hearing aids for local residents. For more information call (231) 745-4524.

Parkinson’s Support Group

Anyone that has Parkinson’s Disease or their caregivers are invited to come to our Mason-Lake County Parkinson’s Support Group meetings which are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m. at the Mason County Senior Center, 140 Main St., Scottville.The next meeting will be Wednesday, Feb. 15. Volunteers needed

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of people willing to share some of their free time. A training will be held for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist. If you are willing to donate a few hours of your time, please contact Marie at (231) 843-2541.

Items needed for the shelter include: curtains, diapers (infant to size 5), feminine products pads & tampons) and socks.

Women’s Support Group is every Thursday at the United Methodist Church between FiveCAP, Inc., and MI Works beginning at 1 p.m. Volunteers are needed for child care during these meeting times. For more information contact Chrystal at (231) 843-2541 ext. 28.

Volunteers are needed for the Habitat Restore. Some lifting also required. Please call (231) 745-2688 to volunteer your time to a Christian organization. Household items in working order are also needed.

Hospice of Michigan Sesame Street package

Hospice of Michigan is pleased to offer the Sesame Street program titled When Families Grieve through the Pathfinder Library, in Baldwin. The kits are bilingual (English and Spanish) and include two booklets and a DVD. Particularly designed to help children grieve, the kit also is to help patients and families sort through complex emotions, remember the life of a loved one, and find strength in one another.

JAYS program available

The Ludington Area Jaycees are now offering the JAYS program, Jaycees Against Youth Smoking, for all area schools grades three through seven. This program is free for schools and provides the curriculum for teachers to take directly into the classroom. Grandparents Group to meet

A support group for grandparents raising grandchildren meets the second and fourth Monday of every month at the Mason County Reformed Church, 45 S. Caregiver’s Support Group meets

Community Mental Health for Central Michigan is continuing their Caregiver’s Support Group meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. Department Veterans Service Officer

Ray Moore, Department Veterans Service officer, the American Legion, Michigan, accredited representative for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, will be available to assist veterans, their dependents, and survivors with claims before the VA at the Newaygo County Veteran Services, 1137 Wilcox, in White Cloud, the second and fourth Monday, of each month, from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. It is not necessary to be a member of The American Legion to receive any assistance. Call the center anytime to set up an appointment or verify availability.

Women’s Shelter volunteers

The Women’s Shelter in Ludington needs volunteers to staff the 24-hour crisis line and shelter. Volunteers must be trained, but must possess basic communication skills and have well established boundaries. Call (231)843-2541 for an interview if you would like to make a difference in the lives of those in

need.

Support Group for caregivers

The support group for care givers of persons with s disease and other memory loss will now be held at the Croton Township Hall, 5833 E. Division, Newaygo. If you would like to attend, but need someone to stay with your loved one during that time, please call Pam at (231) 689-2100 or 1-800-689-2100, and we will provide a trained volunteer to help you.

A.A. meetings

A. A. will meet Mondays, at 8 p.m., at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Baldwin and Saturdays at 8 p.m. at the Baldwin Congregational Church, on the corner of 8th and Beech streets. Anyone with a desire to stop drinking.
