AARP Income Tax program

AARP will provide an Income Tax program beginning Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mecosta County Services Building, 14485 Northland Dr., Big Rapids. VFW Auxiliary to meet

The Peacock Post No. 5315 Ladies Auxiliary will meet on Thursday, April 14 at 2 p.m. at the Post on M-37 north of Baldwin.

Fish Fry

St. Bernard Church in Irons will host “All You Can Eat” Fish Fry Dinners starting Ash Wednesday, March 9,2011, and every Friday during Lent from 4 to 7 p.m. Take-outs are available.

Fish Fry

The Lake County Knights of Columbus will host a Fish Fry each Friday beginning Friday, March 11 through  April 22 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the St. Ann Meals Center directly west of St. Ann Catholic Church on 9th St. in Baldwin. Take outs are available.

Haiti Benefit

In conjunction with the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry at St. Ann’s Senior Center on Friday, April 15  there will be an auction to benefit Haitian relief. Easter Egg Hunt

Amvets Post 1988, Baldwin, (corner of 24th St. and James Rd.) will host an Easter Egg Hunt for youngsters through age 12 at the Post on Saturday, April 16. 2011 beginning at 1 p.m. Have lunch with the Easter Bunny. Public is welcome.

Grief Support Group to meet

A Hospice of Michigan grief support group meets the third Monday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Hollister Senior Citizens Center, 1505 Michigan in Baldwin.

These services are provided to anyone who is mourning the loss of a loved one, whether or not the person was a hospice patient. Hospice of Michigan Grief Support programs are available free of charge.

Republicans to meet

The Lake County Republicans will meet on Monday, April 18 in the basement of the Baldwin Business Center. The potluck is at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting is at 6:30 p.m.

Bible Break

Everyone is invited to take a Bible Break on Tuesday at 12 p.m. each week at the Passover House, 1210 Washington St., Baldwin. Grandparents Support Group meets

Parkinson’s Support Group

Fresh Food Giveaway

Grace Mobile Pantry, together with Feeding America Food Bank will provide free fresh food on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 12 p.m. (noon), until gone. Food will be distributed at the Lake Township Jackie Ryskamp Pavilion, 15580 Star Lake Drive, Baldwin, on Tuesday, April 26. If you are income eligible, have children in need, or have a temporary distress situation, you may come and fill out your complete information on the day of the distribution. Sponsors and volunteers are from area churches and businesses, along with private individual donations. The Finance meeting for the Lake County Board of Commissioners will take place Wednesday, April 27 at 9:30 a.m. at the Lake County Court house.

The Lake County Board of Commissioners will meet Wednesday, April 27 at 10:30 a.m. in the Commissioners Room at the Lake County Courthouse. (They meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month).

Silent Art Auction Benefit

The Fourth Annual C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters) Silent Art Auction by the Women’s and Children’s Support Group will be held Saturday, April 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ludington Center for the Arts, 107 S. Harrison St. Art from local artists and the women and children of the Support Group will be available for bids. Gourmet Coffee provided by The Book Mark and Sweet Delectables provided by Kevin’s Artisan Bakery will be available also. The theme of the evening is “It’s Time...to get involved.” Help say NO to domestic and sexual violence in our homes, neighborhoods, workplaces and our communities.

Hospice of Michigan Sesame Street Package

Hospice of Michigan is pleased to offer the Sesame Street program titled When Families Grieve through the Pathfinder Library, in Baldwin. The kits are bilingual (English and Spanish) and include two booklets and a DVD. Particularly designed to help children grieve, the kit also is to help patients and families sort through complex emotions, remember the life of a loved one, and find strength in one another.

Volunteers needed

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of people willing to share some of their free time. A training will be held for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist. If you are willing to donate a few hours of your time, please contact Marie at (231) 843-2541.

Items needed for the shelter include: curtains, diapers (infant to size 5), feminine products (pads & tampons), and socks.

Women’s Support Group is every Thursday at the United Methodist Church between FiveCAP, Inc., and MI Works beginning at 1 p.m. Volunteers are needed for child care during these meeting times. For more information contact Chrystal at (231) 843-2541 ext. 28.

The Ludington Area Jaycees are now offering the JAYS program, Jaycees Against Youth Smoking, for all area schools grades 3 through 7. This program s free for schools and provides the curriculum for teachers to take directly into the classroom. Caregiver’s Support Group meets

Community Mental Health for Central Michigan is continuing their Caregiver’s Support Group meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. Department Veterans Service Officer

Ray Moore, Department Veterans Service officer, the American Legion, Michigan, accredited representative for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, will be available to assist veterans, their dependents, and survivors with claims before the VA at the Newaygo County Veteran Services, 1137 Wilcox, in White Cloud, the second and fourth Monday, of each month, from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. It is not necessary to be a member of The American Legion to receive any assistance. Call the center anytime to set up an appointment or verify availability.

Women’s Shelter volunteers

The Women’s Shelter in Ludington needs volunteers to staff the 24-hour crisis line and shelter. Volunteers must be trained, but must possess basic communication skills and have well established boundaries.
