St Bernard Church in Irons will host “All You Can Eat” Fish Fry Dinners starting Ash Wednesday (March 9,2011) and every Friday during Lent from 4 to 7 p.m. Take-outs are available.

Fish Fry

The Lake County Knights of Columbus will host a Fish Fry each Friday beginning Friday, March 11 through April 22 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the St. Ann Meals Center directly west of St. Ann Catholic Church on 9th St. in Baldwin. Take outs are available.

Optimist Youth Chess Tournament

The Optimist Club of Ludington will sponsor its 56th annual regional Optimist Youth Chess Tournament for all students in the area who play chess. The Chess Tournament will be held on Saturday, March 19 at the Ludington High School Cafeteria, 210 W. Mask Project 2011 event

Country Lanes Bowling Center in Scottville will host the 4th Annual Ted Douglas Memorial Scotch Doubles Bowling Tournament in support of Hospice of Michigan’s Mask Project 2011 on Saturday, March 19 beginning with late registration at 12 p.m. provided space is available. A Look Ahead

Grief Support Group to meet

A Hospice of Michigan grief support group meets the third Monday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Hollister Senior Citizens Center, 1505 Michigan in Baldwin.

These services are provided to anyone who is mourning the loss of a loved one, whether or not the person was a hospice patient. Hospice of Michigan Grief Support programs are available free of charge.

Republicans to meet

The Lake County Republicans will meet on Monday, March 21 in the basement of the Baldwin Business Center. The potluck is at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting is at 6:30 p.m.

Bible Break

Everyone is invited to take a Bible Break on Tuesday at 12 p.m. each week at the Passover House, 1210 Washington St., Baldwin. Fresh food giveaway

Grace Mobile Pantry, together with Feeding America Food Bank will provide free fresh food on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 12 p.m. (noon), until gone. Food will be distributed at the Lake Township Jackie Ryskamp Pavilion, 15580 Star Lake Dr., Baldwin on Tuesday, March 22. If you are income eligible, have children in need, or have a temporary distress situation, you may come and fill out your complete information on the day of the distribution. Sponsors and volunteers are from area churches and businesses, along with private individual donations. Spaghetti Dinner

The 13th Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Auction to benefit Care Net of Cadillac will be on Tuesday, March 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. at St. Ann’s Church, 800 W. 13th St., in Cadillac. The Luther Lions Club will host a Soup Supper on Wednesday, March 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Luther Lions Club. Proceeds go towards scholarships.

Gospel Jamboree

The Original Gospel Jamboree will take place on Saturday, March 26 at Amazing Grace Acres Church, corner of M-37 and Woodland Park Dr., south of Baldwin. Potluck is at 6:30 and music is at 7 p.m. Featured this time will be The Schwartz Family and the Faith Gospel Team. Everyone is welcome.

Lions to meet

The Baldwin Lions Club will host a program on Leader Dogs with Kim Wattles from Honor on Tuesday, March 29 at the Hollister Senior Center, 1505 Michigan Ave. in Baldwin. The program starts at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

AARP Income Tax program

AARP will provide an Income Tax program beginning Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mecosta County Services Building, 14485 Northland Dr., Big Rapids. Please call the Mecosta Senior Center at (231) 972-2884 for an appointment. This service is free for low income individuals and households and will continue through Thursday, April 14.

Volunteers needed

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of people willing to share some of their free time. A training will be held for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist. If you are willing to donate a few hours of your time, please contact Marie at (231) 843-2541.

Items needed for the shelter include: curtains, diapers (infant to size 5), feminine products (pads & tampons), and socks.

W.I.C. Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children - Complete nutrition program for pregnant or breast-feeding women, infants and children under five years of age. Program provides individual nutrition assessment that includes counseling, a monthly food package, breast-feeding information/support and referrals for other services as needed.
