Snowmobile Class

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a snowmobile safety class on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Reed City. Indoor Yard and Bake Sale

Chili Feed at Big M

The Spirit of the Woods Chapter of the North Country trail Association will host a FREE Chili feed after skiing or snowshoeing at the Big M cross country ski trails outside Wellston. Legion to meet

Blessing vendor meetings

Blessing of the Bikes Vendor Meetings will be held on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Ann’s Church and Sunday, March 4 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Ann’s Church. Potential vendors must be a non-profit and a Chamber of Commerce member. This year’s Blessing will be Sunday, May 20, 2012.

A Look Ahead

Grief Support Group to meet

A Hospice of Michigan grief support group meets the third Monday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Hollister Senior Citizens Center, 1505 Michigan in Baldwin.

These services are provided to anyone who is mourning the loss of a loved one, whether or not the person was a hospice patient. Hospice of Michigan Grief Support programs are available free of charge.

Republicans to meet

The Lake County Republicans will meet on Monday, Feb. 20 in the basement of the Baldwin Business Center. The potluck is at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting is at 6:30 p.m.

Grandparents Support Group meets

Lake County Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Family Health Care Loretta Adams-Ashby Health Center located at 1101 Washington Ave. Light dinner and childcare provided. For more information call (231) 745-2000.

The Finance meeting for the Lake County Board of Commissioners will take place Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 9:30 a.m. at the Lake County Court house.

Commission meetings

The Lake County Board of Commissioners will meet Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 10:30 a.m. in the Commissioners Room at the Lake County Courthouse. (They meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month).

Gospel Jamboree

The Original Gospel Jamboree will take place on Saturday, Feb. 25 at Amazing Grace Acres Church, corner of M-37 and Woodland Park Dr., south of Baldwin. Potluck is at 6:30 and music is at 7 p.m. Featured this time will be Narrow Road and the Faith Gospel Team. Everyone is welcome.

Fresh food giveaway

Grace Mobile Pantry, together with Feeding America Food Bank will provide free fresh food on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 12 p.m. (noon), until gone. Food will be distributed in the parking lot of Lake Township Hall, 15580 Star Lake Rd., Baldwin, on Tuesday, Feb. 28. This month’s sponsor is Evergreen Evangelical Covenant Church. If you are income eligible, have children in need, or have a temporary distress situation, you may come and fill out your complete information on the day of the distribution. Sponsors and volunteers are from area churches and businesses, along with private individual donations. If you, your church or business would like to sponsor a monthly event, please call Sandra Pudell at 231-898-3813. Sponsors are needed.

Volunteers needed

C.O.V.E. (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters), formerly known as Region Four Community Services (The Women’s Shelter) is seeking a group of people willing to share some of their free time. A training will be held for those interested in assisting staff in answering the crisis line and/or being a receptionist. If you are willing to donate a few hours of your time, please contact Marie at (231) 843-2541.

Items needed for the shelter include: blankets, razors,  toilet paper, dish soap and laundry soap..

Women’s Support Group is every Thursday at the United Methodist Church between FiveCAP, Inc., and MI Works beginning at 1 p.m. Volunteers are needed for child care during these meeting times. For more information contact Chrystal at (231) 843-2541 ext. 28.

Hospice of Michigan Sesame Street Package

Hospice of Michigan is pleased to offer the Sesame Street program titled When Families Grieve through the Pathfinder Library, in Baldwin. The kits are bilingual (English and Spanish) and include two booklets and a DVD. Particularly designed to help children grieve, the kit also is to help patients and families sort through complex emotions, remember the life of a loved one, and find strength in one another.

Jaycees Against Youth Smoking

The Ludington Area Jaycees are now offering the JAYS program, Jaycees Against Youth Smoking, for all area schools grades 3 through 7. This program is free for schools and provides the curriculum for teachers to take directly into the classroom. Caregiver’s Support Group meets

Community Mental Health for Central Michigan is continuing their Caregiver’s Support Group meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. Immunization Clinics - Available by appointment only at (231) 745-4663. NOTE: As of Jan. 1, 2004 immunization fees were increased (Medicaid accepted). Expanded hours are available as scheduled by appointment.

MI-Child Program - Children ages 0-19 years of age health insurance coverage. Applications are available. Breast and Cervical Clinic Schedule - By appointment only. Call 1-800-968-7300 to schedule.

Environmental Health Division - Questions regarding environmental programs, permits, and fees can be addressed in the mornings between 8-10 a.m. with a sanitarian. Applications for permits can be obtained by mail or at the health department from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. As of Jan. 1, 2004 Environmental Health Fees were increased. W.I.C. Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children - Complete nutrition program for pregnant or breast-feeding women, infants and children under five years of age. Program  provides individual nutrition assessment that includes counseling, a monthly food package, breast-feeding information/support and referrals for other services as needed. The Pathfinder Community Library, 812 Michigan Ave., Baldwin is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Closed Thursday and Sunday.

Women’s Shelter volunteers

The Women’s Shelter in Ludington needs volunteers to staff the 24-hour crisis line and shelter. Volunteers must be trained, but must possess basic communication skills and have well established boundaries. Community Thrift Center

The Community Thrift Center at 10th and Maple streets in Baldwin, south of the Courthouse, has clean clothing, household articles, and some furniture.The Center hours are Mondays through Fridays, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. All donations of good used articles are welcome during hours the shop is open, ifpossible. All proceeds benefit the community.

A.A. meetings

A. A. will meet Mondays, at 8 p.m., at St. Ann’s Catholic Church  in Baldwin and Saturdays at 8 p.m. at the Baldwin Congregational Church, on the corner of 8th and Beech streets. Anyone with a desire to stop drinking.
